Correct - high lean angles by themselves do not mean faster - just more risk. Someone, more agile than me, can get off the bike more and only lean the bike 30degrees to achieve the same cornering as me at 40degrees.

I'm certainly no gift to motorcycling and deffo can't get away with wearing tight tops(!) but the trick to hanging off is to lock your outside knee into the tank as you approach a corner, have your toes on the inside peg and your head positioned looking down the track towards where you want to go somewhere above the inside part of the bars with your inside knee effectively hanging loose - you can practice this with the bike on a paddock stand - obviously without falling onto the garage floor.. as you tip into the corner the bike stays relatively upright while you are 'hanging off' and hey presto without any effort, reaching for the ground / whatever, you'll hear the pleasing sound of slider on tarmac if you're going at a reasonable pace - I also find this a good gauge of how far over I am. The pics of Darryl and Pete show this nicely in the Snetterton thread - your pics good look too btw, well at least on the bike!!

Right thats it mac, im going to try out your technique and if i fail then im holding you responsible and will send you the bill....lol On a serious note that short paragraph on technique sounds good and i will give that a try :)

Haha, better put a mattress next to the bike! That's how I was taught and worked for me

Correct. The more upright the bike the faster you can go.

Not strictly true, gravity and centrifugal forces come into play...If you were, to say, riding a hairpin then the more upright you are with speed the more likely the bike will fall to the outside of the bend. When riding a corner (at whatever speed) if you start drifting wide the speed has to decrease/ lean angle increase to stay on line. If you feel the bike drifting to the inside of the bend, lean angle must decrease/open the throttle to lift the bike up. If you watch the pro's, when they are spinning up the rear wheel it's to turn the bike tighter into the bend because their lean angle is already on the limit. When you hear commentators say "he stood the bike up early on the exit to that bend to get on the fat part of the tyre quicker" it's bo***cks. Look at any sports/track tyre and the fat bit (grip) is on the side (off the middle) They lift it up as early as possible because that's where the suspension works the best when they're cracking the throttle open. Hope this helps... :)

Hello first time poster! Would you mind doing a welcome post to tell us who you are?

Page 111-112 of the manual has the lean angle setting. For the 2015+

The lean angle was useful after all, managed 51.5 only as I was thinking that I must have a bit more to go and there were no warning signals! Good feedback on track. Useless on the road though for me.

After seeing this thread, i couldn't resist snapping this after a session at Oulton Park yesterday.

Ohh most definitely cheating with a pair of dunlop slicks, nicely baked for 40minutes in a set of warmers.

On the road i'd struggle to get near 40 degrees on road tyres. I just don't get the heat in them to lean it over too far confidently.

How did you get the lean angles on display in race mode I thought you had to have the slick plug in to get that up?
The pic is in slick mode anyway. It's only the DTC setting level that won't display other than in slick or user with DTC slick. All are configurable to display.
even with slicks on that's f'kin impressive!
