Hi, been looking at one of these for a ages but have never committed. Joined to get the lowdown and gen on what must be one of the best bikes out there. Always say if you need to know then go to those that ride them. Here's hoping I gain the info I need to make the decision. I have been riding for 40 years and have ridden all types of bike in all elements including club racing. Have recently retired so have time on my hands to enjoy myself. 😁

Welcome to the forum buddy! As for what gen to get they are all quite similar in terms of power, gen 3 have cruise control and a user mode and slightly more power

Hi Andy, welcome to the forum. Sounds like you know your way around 2 wheeled machines :). You may find us a *little* bias about the s1000rr but it is a very capable machine for sure.

What you thinking, new/used, year?

Welcome to the form Andy, that's some riding background you've got!

+1 on us lot being every so slightly biased, but in all honesty the S1000RR is a phenomenally accomplished bike.

As Felix says, power is similar for all models, however refinement and tech have improved on later models.

Enjoy the forum :)

Thanks guys, it would be second hand prepare to let someone else take the hit, as for what year, would be best my money can get

Upto 8.5 but can go higher. There are a few out there but I tend to take my time and not jump in. Couple for sale on the site I see.

Gen 3's are mostly around 10k+
Gen 2's are in your price range though!

Welcome to the site Andy. Should get a great bike for your budget, there hasn't been a weak S1000rr yet.

Good luck with your search.

Aloha! Yeah, thats not a bad starting price for a gen 2 bike, but (<bias mode>) the gen 3 is more technologically advanced with the electronic suspension, cruise, blippers and all that lovely fluff. (</bias mode>). You may not want all that electronic enhancement but it'll sell better so you might be able to justify an ever so slightly higher budget. As said before though, they're all brilliant machines.

Welcome Andy..happy hunting...nothing better than shopping about for a new machine...

Let us know what you go for.

Cheers. Stuart
