hi all looking to buy s1000rr need to ask a few questions before i buy theres a few second hand ones around 12 to 13 reg
1st would you buy without warranty
2 is the extended warranty worth it
3 how reliable is the bike
4 what to look out for when buying

any advice appreciated thanks

not without warranty personally
reliability? ...7k miles in 4.5 months ... no issues
look for? ...paint damage (its very thin), rusty sump!
buy and enjoy!

The best advice is to sit and have a read through the Garage section when you get a few hours. That gives you an idea of what the usual issues are, the frequency of them and the usual outcomes. Dealers tend to sort a lot, even outside warranty, on the recognised faults.

I think it's safe to say that it's probably not quite as well finished or reliable as the Universal Japanese Motorcycle, but it is a good chunk more exciting. Experiences on here range from the horrendous, to folk who've had no issues at all. Remember, also, when reading through the forum that folks tend not to shout and scream when the bike is working well - otherwise you might get the impression that it's a complete crock!

Common faults:

  • Switchgear malfunctions
  • Sump corrosion
  • Various gearbox issues

In short though, would I have mine without a warranty? Afraid not.
