Head lights

Evening all, is it just me are the head lights rubbish, a fair part of my commute is through and area without street lights as my head lights are awful. Is this a common thing or is there a problem?

Halogen = fairly rubbish.
Plenty of threads already on bulb choice and HID replacement

They are and as Alex says there is.. bulb upgrades are the cheapest easiest option... Phillips Extreme vision plus 130s are popular.. huge increase in brightness (if thats what its called). I upgraded to these..30 odd quid for the 2 heads and 2 running lights..
