For 2018, what are the best mobile phone guidance/route apps with maps on the bike?

I just got a Samsung S9+ (leaving all my purchases in iTunes etc behind) and want to stick a proper app on it as Google maps is somewhat limited/thick/prone to doing whatever the heck it wants.

Waze (seems to want too much metadata)

I cant vouch for the ?best?, but I do use Waze.... mainly for those all important speed camera and mobile van alerts through my headset. It does an adequate job considering it?s free and it?s those alerts that are important to me.

I use TomTom Go for iOS.

I like it because you can download the map data for the whole of Europe locally, it?s reasonably priced (IMO) and includes speed camera and live traffic re-routing, yet as you don?t require an internet connection you don?t incur the data penalty from the likes of Waze, Google maps etc.

It?s not perfect through, the route planning feature could be improved to make planning multiple stops more intuitive etc.

They do offer a limited mileage ?trial? period per month, so you could give it a go before purchasing a subscription

This was on my mind when asking - I'd like to be able to get a copy of the NC500 Route...

I see it has these features though;

MyRoute-app as your central route platform
34. Share routes and tracklogs via Twitter, Facebook, email, URL link and HTML code
35. Review and use favorites
36. Copy routes to TomTom, Garmin, Interphone, BMW navs and others through MyRoute-app Connector (minimum Windows XP or macOS 10.8)
37. Export routes to your TomTom without USB connection using TomTom MyDrive!

Doesn't it ask you for ALL your contact information? It's pretty rapey from a metadata perspective. I appreciate that them being able to use your data makes it possible to be 'free' but at what 'cost'?

You don?t have to give the access. Doing so allows shortcuts to navigate to friends etc, but it?s not a requirement to give the access. I?m sure there are better pure navigation apps to be honest, but I like the security of knowing that if there is a mobile camera around the corner, the chances are waze knows about it.

Fair enough, I swear when I last tried to register it refused me access without access grants in the oauth policy being agreed including my contacts and social media details. This may have changed.

Interesting. That?s made me double check but my ?apps that have access to my contacts? list in my iOS privacy doesn?t include Waze so I must have said ?No? at some point. Lol.

- ?17.99 1 year

Though there is a 50 mile per month ?trial? period where you get full access to the speed camera alerts and live traffic features
