Hi took bike for m o t passed .Then went.for a blast
Noticed temp was at 95 in a 30 mph got up to 100 102/3 gradually dropped to 79 80 c but last year I thought it ran at 71c in a 30 what does yours run at
Mine has rad and oil cooler guards cheers

As above, they do run hot, especially in low speed traffic. If your cooling fan kicks in, then everything is fine. The following day, when she's cooled down properly, just check the coolant level. If the level is fine, you have nothing to concern yourself with. Two summers ago whilst touring in Europe, where the ambient temperature was above 30C, mine spent all day at or around 100C, especially at altitude going over the top of Pyrenees. The coolant level the next day was fine. Lesson learned, they just run hot.

I run the alpha higher pressure radiator cap on both my bikes and it does stop a lot of coolant being dumped out of the radiator.

Agree with all the above, all normal. My Multistrada used to run above 100 often, and I Couldn’t understand why it didn’t boil over, but the coolant can tolerate it - some additive, don’t really know how.

I think that it's a modern bike thing. They're set to run lean in the midrange to meet emissions requirements. Lean = hot. Catalytic converters don't help. My old 1997 Suzuki TL1000S runs significantly cooler than the BM.

Does anyone know why they don’t boil over above 100 deg? Always puzzled me. It’s water in there..must be an additive which raises the boiling point?

you could plain water in any bike system and get it over 100 degrees sitting still. It’s a pressurised system. Think pressure cooker. The radiator cap spring is what dictates the fluid release. I run the alpha caps that have a stronger spring. Saves having to top the coolant up so much.

Simple rule. The higher the horsepower, the more heat. My 1098 runs 70 all day long even on a hot day but it’s only 153 bhp at the back wheel.
