Hi,

No, not BMW days, it's a Focused Events track holiday at Almeria in Spain.

A few of us on here are going next week.

Hopefully BMW/Tyco/FE will run another trackday next year, and hopefully, we will be able to bring the Mrs for a cup of tea as well..

Ahhh gotcha ;-) ....catch you there next year then! ....and fingers crossed for free tea all round! ;)

Guys, what was the day / format like? All I read is about the hospitality not being as hospitable as you wanted.

The 'BMW' day was quite a bit more costly than the NL trackday a number of us went to a couple of days earlier so I am curious about the added value. Apart from the free food what else was different about it? Did you get help setting the bikes' DDC from some of the Tyco guys, or getting track tuition, that sort of thing???

I've always assumed the bmw days are more expensive because if your insured with bmw insurance you are covered fully comp on track . Just my thoughts . Can't see a cuppa and sandwiches costing much .

Hi Alex, cheers for the info I'll bear that in mind but to be honest I removed it after 1 session as it was getting in the way. I switched it to the front fairing above the headlight with the suction pad.

OK, that will be great, though tbh 4 days of 6 sessions is plenty, guess it's almost like open pit and just go out when you want to.

Are you doing the race for fun ?

I'm thinking about it.

We did a 4day and a 3day at Almeria with no break in between in February-that was too much!!
I would think the race for fun would be too much after the normal trackday as the race is in the lunch break(probably hottest time of day too).

Yes, well you would probably miss some normal sessions, you get classrooms and dummy start practice on the first 3 days, they do try to make it as safe as possible, tbh it's more of a time trial as everyone is at a slightly different level, it's not really an all out race like you would watch on TV

That being said, it does look like fun and I am tempted..

Last time I was there, there was a guy in my garage who was on his first ever trackday, and he did the race for fun, made me feel ashamed, as I have been doing this for 16 years!

Soof, no one seems to have answered your Qs, so I'll try. In summary, the track stuff was probably exactly what you'd expect, food was pretty excellent.

After registration, we all had breakfast in the TYCO corp hospitality 'tent' (which is probably an insult, it was well turned out), with TYCO clad guys clearing up after us - never been to race hospitality, but it felt like we got the full service. All you needed to do to get in was show your wristband to Mrs Josh Waters (moonlighting for BMW...). After that it was the usual 20 mins per hour on track. There were instructors there, I didn't want any, so can't tell you much about that. The BSB and Prime Factor bikes were on show in pit boxes all day, with riders and mechanics wandering around talking to anyone that talked to them. There was also a chance to get a free pic with the tyco riders, whcih was printed out for you by the end of the day. As ever the FE team were always around to help, spannering away etc.

The TYCO tent was open all day for free food and drink whenever you wanted it. Beside this, there was a load of new road bikes that you could take out. Yes, you can do that at a dealer any time, but it appealed to me... I took an XR out for a ride, would have taken others if they'd been available at times inbetween my track sessions (only criticism would be lack of new RR to try).

As lunchtime started the TYCO and Prime Factors boys went out for some demo laps, which I missed cos I was too hungry. Once they were finished on track Messrs Bridewell and Laverty were interviewed in the TYCO tent and then we got to ask some Qs. They reordered the groups and we did the usual stuff in the afternoon.

I shared a garage with some of the lads from the forum, everyone was really friendly. I thought it was a really good day, impressed with all of it.

...not half as impressed as I was when I got the email with my times on it though.... :)

thanks Rick for taking the time to do the write up, just what I wanted to know. I was starting to wonder when there was no response..... Sounds like a very good day.

If you got your times were transponders given out for every bike, or was it done manually. Quite interested about that... And more importantly how did you do, you can't leave that one dangling? :)

Yup we were given transponders at registration (only had to pay ?4 for the transponder holder).

As for my time, I got moved from Inters to fast at lunchtime, which scared the **** out of me, but actually looks to have been a really good move. No pattern to my morning times, but was doing very consistent 1:50 all afternoon, and managed to break into 1:49s on my last lap :)

I know Bananaman and KLS will have gone way faster, but it was all about getting consistency for me, so mission accomplished :)

Nice one, good times too. They did the right thing moving you up :). I know the feeling of going that first time in fast group, then loving it, much better track time if you are going well.

Were the transponders obligatory? Was it because it was a BMW day or is that how FE run their days generally?

It was a stated feature of the day... not sure how obligatory they were. FE used them at the BMW day at Monteblanco last year, so I just accepted it, knowing I'd get an email in due course....

Hi All ,
like I said before, it was a really good day and it was my first Trackday. In the short 2 and a bit sessions that I did before the bike was wrecked was doing a 2.02 which moved me from novices up to intermediate. If only I'd had the bike to go back out. Luckily it was covered fully comp as I'm insured with BMW motorad which covers you for all Bmw activity days including chrono days like the 29th.

Just a little incident but all covered under motorrad insurance and my kit as well. Will all be good as new soon as we know it.

Hi Rick,
Not heard anything from him and insurance where less than impressed with his situation when I told them. BMW insurance was as bit of a god send in the end. Can wait till the next one and will go straight into the inters.
