Well, what a cracking day! My day went like this....
We started with a wet track, The rain had stopped. In a way I was quite happy with that for the start of the day having not been to Donington before and needing to learn quickly. The first session was very steady, sighting laps really, great to learn the layout. Perfect.
By the second session it was drying out nicely and by the third it was dry as a bone. At the end of the fourth session I was going well, had a perfect exit out of Goddards with much more speed than ever before, and subsequently overcooked going into Redgate and put myself in the kitty litter, by about 20 feet. Managed to keep the bike upright and intact, albeit buried up to the axles in gravel. I haven't washed it yet but I expect to be using the touch up paint a bit, we shall see....
Because I managed to do this just before we broke for lunch I had 2 hours to ponder. By the time we got to 2pm to start again I was getting cold feet about the whole thing and the confidence was going. Went out and very nearly repeated myself at McLeans, this time running wide on exit. There was the kitty litter beckoning me again. For fooks sake, pushing too hard, not smooth, trying to force the pace, idiot. I remembered some advice I was given after my earlier off by John (not on here) about what to do, and because of that I managed to avoid the litter this time but still managed to get the bike on the grass, and then back to track. This isn't going well. I'm selling it when I get home and hanging the boots up!
I must have been visibly a bit shaken. Hebegb offered to lead me round for a few laps in the next session. It worked, got my flow back and found some more time, all great again. And that's how it stayed for the rest of the day.
Donington is a fantastic circuit, one I should have been to before now, what a nice treat you lot on Saturday will be getting, enjoy!
Big hello again to Kev on his HP4, sorry we didn't really get time for a chat, but great to meet you. You were going really well on your bike, great to watch.
Alex - let me know when you've got some footage uploaded.
Thanks to nolimits for a flawless trackday, and to the lack of nobs riding like dicks.
Thanks to John, Simon and Graham for taking time to give me good advice and help. It all worked, a great result.
