Previously had one Radiator go whilst at the MCN Festival this year, first one in over 40k miles of road riding due to stone debris.

Does anyone have a radiator (and / or oil cooler ) guard fitted to their BM?
Any advice on a particular brand? Evotech, R&G or?

Since Triumph wanted around ?480 a radiator guard seemed good value insurance

Appreciate the help in advance

Sorry to hear about that,

I've fitted evotech ones to mine. Good price. Quick delivery and easy to fit.
They look good and are of good quality also.

I don't have any on my bike Westy but I have heard good things about evotech, I have their levers and tail tidy and the stuffs well made and looks ace, probably should get the rad guard myself.

Cox Racing

I have a Cox Racing Radiator and Oil Cooler Guard Kit fitted. The fit and finish is excellent and they secure directly to the bike using the original fixings. They also used on the Tyco BMW BSB race bikes. The radiator fins are rather more delicate on the BMW compared to those on other bikes so it's certainly a worthwhile investment.

I asked Bowker Motorrad after sales dept. if I should fit a radiator guard. They told me "no because it voids the warranty and could blow the engine up!"

They feed me lies and am never going to use them again.

That is the kinda official line from BMW. I got my dealer to fit them at pdi and he told me that it would void the warranty if I fitted them as the official line from BMW was the engine could overheat. He fitted them and said if I had an overheating problem they would have to see the bike without the guards fitted. The bike does heat up a bit more quickly than my previous fire blades but I've never been close to it overheating. I've had R&G and Evotech and can recommend both.

I use R&G. Evotech are nice, as are others. Much of a muchness in terms of doing the job so it's down to asthetics. The R&G oil and cooler guards use tie wraps to secure to the bike, other brands tend to use radiator mounting points which makes them a bit more permanent.

Radiator Guards

BMW Motorrad generally advise not to fit them due to a very small risk of overheating. That said many dealerships acknowledge that a lot of owners fit them given the cost of fitting a replacement radiator. Most recommend fitting them but request if you do have an issue that you remove it prior to them inspecting the bike for warranty purposes.

evotech on mine and the missis zx10. there ordered before hand and are fit before we go on the road. had a rad go on a gixer thou a few years back and not worth the hassle with a holed rad for the sake of a ?60 to ?70 rad. evotech is very good quality and piece of piss to fit.

These do the job perfectly well, tie wrapped the O/C one but the top one for the rad just sits in place, you are able to bend it in and the fairing holds it in situ.

1/3 of the price of the brand names and does exactly the same job... mine have been on over 1 year now.

Theres a few of us on here have these exact ones fitted.

You are forgetting one thing....holes. The guards on my mates BM have smaller holes to let the air through (not sure of make). Mine has R & G with larger holes (quite noticeable) and runs on average 2 deg cooler than his. We have both just returned from a track week in Almeria and Andalucia. The air temp was around 35/36 deg and we had no overheating issues.

Popped r1 rad few year ago on way to Scottish bike show running it in 100 m on never take one out showroom now without rad n oil gaurd

Fitted Evotech guards once bike was delivered, good quality and great fit.
