Crash Protection - which bits are a must?

Hi All

Picked up the S1000RR on the weekend and have been looking at crash protection.
Lots of bits and kits available but is there a must have or minimum list of bits to have to ensure all the sticky out bits are covered? I'm assuming at the very least:

1. Frame sliders
2. LHS/RHS engine covers or sliders at least?
3. Front rear axle sliders
4. bar ends

Is this it or are there other extremities that need covering?

You could put frame and swing arm covers on too, a scratched frame can be an insurance write-off.

+1 on the frame and swing arm covers.

I would recommend a set of GB Racing case covers, rather than a pair of case sliders.

Re frame sliders, I wouldn?t go for a set that are overly long.

I personally wouldn?t bother with the bar end sliders though

Always but frame and swing arm covers on mine... plus I think they look smart

Exactly, my RSV4 got written off last year due to a scratch on the frame.

Wanted to keep the bike as a trackbike, however frame had to be crushed !!

Slowly getting through the protection on mine, got all the gb covers on now, where is the best place for the frame an swing arm covers please?

I now use the Alpha ones, they just fit, cheap ones can be hard work to make good.

Looking bike now, I wouldnt do it. Will just track it with a scratch.

Just about to fit some protection can some one give me a confirmation on the torque of the bolts please. I think the cases should be 10nm but I can?t find where I found this before.

Sorry Kev, what are you bolting?
The torque can differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Ahh ok in that case maybe I should contact the manufacturer for their recommendation in typical Italian style the instructions just say use oem spec torque for the engine cases.

Engine bolts are 50nm
Alpha have some PDF's to download...you can't go too far wrong.

Not sure the bolts I mean are on there as 50nm is a lot for them I think. I?ll try Bmw see what they say.

for the engine cover bolts i think its 8nm.

8nm sounds more like it than 50 I think to. We safe I?ll double check with the dealer.
On a side note ... I think I met your mrs a few weeks ago running in her bike we were comparing which bits we needed lol.
