Hi Guys,

Thinking about carbon wrapping parts on my 2021 RR.

I think it?s a shame that BMW opted for using ?Matt? plain unpainted plastic trim parts, instead of painted parts to suit the rest of the glossy black paintwork on the majority of the bike. I know why they did this, obviously because they want you to buy their incredibly expensive carbon fibre parts!

A much cheaper alternative to actual carbon made parts.

I just want to focus on wrapping some of the more cheaper looking Matt black plastics, such as the mud guard, side trims either side of the fuel tank etc.

I?d appreciate all your thoughts on this before I make a final decision.

Its a good idea but can be fiddly as F to fit.
Get quality wrap. 3M for example.
Decent Squeegee.
Clamps to be your 3rd,4th,5th hand
And a decent fluid to help you manouvre it.

My only question is whether it will ultimately adhere to those plastics...
I'd buy a small test sheet to do a fairly simple test piece first.
Its easier to do parts bolted in place like mirrors as they are held in place.

You will find it's almost impossible to wrap, the pattern on the plastics will leave lots of minute air bubbles behind. Good luck !

Would you have to sand them to do it properly?

Having wrapped a set of race fairings in 3M plain vinyl I certainly wouldn?t even contemplate attempting a carbon fibre effect wrap!

Sand, prime, rub down flat then wrap.

Definitely the right way to do it but not ideal if you ever want to return the bike to standard if selling.

Did this on my gen1 and painted them. Lot of work .....

wrapping for looks (as in coloured/carbon etc) is bloody hard work to get right,nigh on impossible for most people,clear protective (venture sheild style stuff/clear 3m sheets) wrap isn't as bad as, well it's clear so harder to see the **** ups but still very hard to get right.

mate had this done on 675 a couple of years back, looked the nuts.
