Hi,
I know this has probably been done to death on the forum but I?ve tried searching an wading through returned results and quite frankly couldn?t find exactly what I was looking. So here goes... I?m looking at either an akrapovic gp or SC project slip on for my 2018 s1000rr. I realise that it?s down to personal preference whichever one I go for. I am doing this for purely aesthetic reasons and maybe a better soundtrack. I just think the ordinary cans sound is quite tame and looks really huge. I will probably look at replacing the headers at a later date to the akrapovic stainless steel ones, again I want rid of the big cat which is unsightly and also to make the noise a bit deeper. My questions are:
1. Will I need a remap once I replace the headers?
2. Who does this? The dealer?
3. What sort of cost is involved?
4. Will the SC project slip on work with the akrapovic headers?
Sorry again if done to death on here. Any help appreciated.

1. With a GP style full system, yes you would likely need to remap IMO. As a slip-on you have nothing to worry about, however when installing the headers you would need to at the very least check the fuelling on a dyno to ensure all is OK.

2. To remap your bike, you need a RapidBike module (the Race model is preferable). If you become a Premier Forum member you can then contact @alex as there is a forum discount available on these modules, though only available to Premier Members.
An authorised Dyno centre can check your bikes felling after the exhaust change, install and custom map the fuel module.
None of these changes are ?permanent? and therefore your BMW warranty is still intact (though you would likely need to return the bike to stock if the engine went pop, though that is highly unlikely).

3. Under the assumption a mechanic does all the work for you, as in my case, I would be budgeting ~ ?2.5K for everything discussed. Your stainless Akrapovic system is going to be ~?1.4, the fuel module including installation and mapping maybe ?600, plus additional labour to install the exhaust etc.
Remember when the headers are swapped, the servo motors must not be removed, only the cables can be removed, and when doing so the plates must not be rotated or else and engine warning light appears. Alternatively, if you wish to completely remove the servo motors, you will need 2x Servo Buddies (though you?ll need to look into that further).

4. Not to my knowledge, I believe this was discussed previously and @RyS1000RR explained that there are incompatibilities with the hanger designs between the Akrapovic headers and OEM, meaning that only the Akrapovic GP slip-on can be used.
Though wait for further confirmation on this as I am not entirely sure.

Additional things you might wish to consider.
The UK MoT laws have changed recently, so down the line when your bike is due an MoT it will need a silencer with the E marking or British standards marking and a baffle (if the silencer is compatible with one) in order to pass. My Akrapovic Evolution system technically is no longer road legal ...
Furthermore, you must consider how and where you intend to use your RR, as the GP full systems are extremely loud and you will not be able to do UK track days with it installed. You might even have trouble at certain Euro events too (though our track day regulars can give more information on this).
If you wanted a fully UK road legal full system, you would need the official Akrapovic long silencer coupled to their headers.

Thanks for answering my questions Oli that makes things a lot clearer.
