How much difference does a full system change the power delivery under say 8k revs, and as most don't have a cat so aren't road legal do insurance companies take a dim view ?

CATs arent a legal requirement on motorbikes as far as i know? Speak to Jeff at Hilltop Motors, he runs S1000s for a few race teams and told me that any power you gain from a de-cat you will loose again from putting aftermarket headers on... best to cut the cats off, and fit a decat pipe.

Whenever I've insured a bike with a race system or can on the insurer has asked if it's road legal ?, AFAIK S1000RR systems without a cat aren't road legal ?

why does it matter? just fit it and ride it,

speed limits 70!! but i bet that doesnt bother you, lol

Big Dave is correct, CATS are not required to be legal. They are not tested at MOT time.

I couldn't care less about the cat, what I am concerned about is being fully insured. Maybe I've used cans/systems marked not for road use in the past and thankfully I've never been in a position where an insurer could refuse to replace my bike due to undisclosed modifications. Now I'd rather not take the chance. Don't official Motorrad Akra systems come with a cat ?.

im with bikesure and let them know about all modifications. Insurance company's know most people will swap exhausts. It made no difference to my insurance cost. Give yours a call then you will know where you stand. If your going for a full system I would advise some sort of fuelling control with a map too.pcv or bazzaz etc.

Good points. Next spring I'll see what my insurer says re the system. TBH what I'm interested in is more mid range rather than top end.
