I just did the road bike only track day at Donington on Monday which was a 98db limit on my 2016 S1000RR, and got booted off in the 3rd session for tripping the noise meter at 99.1db. The bike is completely standard (besides some R&G) so how the hell could i blow the noise limit, but not only me, EVERY S1000RR Gen 3 (2015+) got black flagged and booted off the day. All were standard except 1 and that had the "Road Legal" Official Akroprovic fitted with its baffle!

The worse bit is i rang and checked with the TDO before i'd even booked, if my bike would be OK their reply "Yes you'll be fine if it is standard", but when i spoke to the gaffer on the day couldnt or didnt want to help and to be honest was about as helpful as a chocolate fire guard!

So If you do fancy doing a "Road Bike Only" track day make sure it isnt 98db or it will be a short day......

Noise Testing

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest as the standard exhaust on the 2015/16 S1000RR is loud. Passing static noise testing isn't generally an issue but the drive-by noise limits are. Trackday organisers will always assume that a standard bike will be fine but in truth this is not always the case. It's unfortunate but noise testing is becoming stricter and for good reason as a lot of our circuits, especially Donington Park, are under significant pressure when it comes to local government imposed noise restrictions.

Re: Noise Testing

There was a women there on the day from Leicester Council checking the noise and how the track was handling it. Apparently the last time that TDO was at Donington for a "Road Bike Only" day they tripped the noise meters in excess of 500 times!

Track days in Spain with NO noise limit. Love the country I do :bananahuge:

Sorry to hear about your day nibs, it's is a known problem with the gen 3. At a JW trackday this year the man himself and Hutchinson were discussing changing future trackday venues due to noise limits being too low for the BMW.

The 2016 model is quite loud as standard, but....Donington Park? This is the circuit next to an airport, yes? 98dB is mental.

Running the Austin Racing short can WITHOUT any baffles lol. I would be banned from the uk lol. Just love it, all the fecking cars move out my way!!
