Hi,

MikePotteRR

has kindly offered to swap his pillion seat for my cowl, but we're both a bit unsure as to the exact details of the swap. The lock/barrels will need exchanging of course, but we've never removed/re-fitted these.

Does anyone have any pointers / directions to help make this swap a smooth process?

Any/all help appreciated.

Thanks.

Remove the 2 torx head screws from the retainer on the under side of seat/cowl, remove retainer, remove locking tab that will now be loose or fall off anyway. There's a spring loaded tab that's now visible that keeps the lock barrel in the seat/cowl, push into the barrel with a small screwdriver and the lock will slide out. You keep your screws, retainer plate and barrel. He keeps his. Sorted

I like it when people find things out so the rest of us don't have to! It's not happened to me yet but it's usually straight out the seat and into the cowl and vice versa, just dumb luck. Really should just buy an extra lock...

Thanks for the help guys. Do any of the brackets need swapping or is it just the lock barrel? Its for a Gen 3 seat and cowl.

As mentioned already. Nothing needed except lock barrel. But I would be inclined to reattach the plate, locking tab and screws once the barrel is out. I'm sure there isn't a difference but it's best to be keep all original parts together just in case. But most importantly, once you've got that barrel out, do not remove the key!!!

Sorted it in a very short space of time - simple when you know how eh? (thanks for the insight or I think that key trick and the spring loaded locking tab would have had me confuddled).
