Hello.
Im new here and only had my S1000RR a couple of rainy weeks.
My mate sent me a picture of a Hp4 yesterday trying to wind me up saying he'd bought it and was so much better than my bike.

I dont know much about the differences between them, other than the Hp4 is lighter and has launch control.

I have a couple of questions. .

1. What are the differences?
2. In the real world, on a road, would you notice the Hp4 over the beast of the S1000RR?

Thanks

Hi Jim a good question in my humble opinion yes you would notice the difference, not so much around a city but on a bit of open road that you know, most definitely.

I would say yes but only on the track. Guys I know have both and after a slight upgrade to the suspension electronics they can turn about a second a lap quicker. But without the upgrade it's not there. That is timed against sorted S1k's with either Ohlins or Bitubo.

On the road...against a standard bike there should be a suspension improvement but I would think it's only noticeable if you are on it.

I think if I ever get board of my bike, I'll test ride a Hp4 and then decide.
At the minute, I have no plans to upgrade.

IMO,the DDC suspension is much smoother than the standard setup. The power delivery on the HP4 seems smoother(probably a bit more boring,to be honest).
The biggest improvement with the HP4 is the all round feeling of confidence it gives you(cold tyres-paah,who cares!)As a road bike there is nothing better.
First time on track with the HP4 was 3 secs a lap quicker than my '10 s1000rr(full akra system, same bhp)both on standard road tyres.
However,at present, the HP4 is still about 2 secs short of my best time(on a '12 with ktech suspension)although some of that is probably due to conditions, busy trackdays, setting up the suspension etc and not wanting to fall off the new bike!

Can't comment on the hp4 but changing sussies on my '10 to bitubo gave me 3secs a lap with more to come when I get more used to it. Certainly get more out of the rear tyre. I think as stated, depends how you ride and where you ride it.

HP4s are not in production so you'd be into second hand. You'd be better off looking at the new model bike with DDC optioned.

BTW, nice mate you have !
