From what I've read online, it's been around since the '80s and nobody's paid the slightest bit of attention to it. That said, would be just like the French plod to start fining people with an old law because they didn't get their other silly rules passed...

I don't see how the French can put points on a UK license.
If I'm ever in France they can go take a f**k to themselves if they think I'm going to put permanent stickers on my £500 limited edition lid. I wont be paying a fine either unless they can extort it at the roadside.

Problem is they can extort it. If you don't pay the fine (and they'll escort you to a cash machine if you don't have it) then they can legally impound your vehicle on the spot and you walk.

Have heard it happen lots on car trips. People have even had on the spot bans and passengers have had to take over driving - to be pulled over later by more plod to double check they are complying.

Just get the ferry to Spain is my take on it. Bloody French Govt...

For a while UK plod were employed by the French to work the main routes from/to ferry and tunnel. That way they could endorse your licence easier. They are definately enforcing the breathalyser rule ( you have to carry two). One of the reasons why I am using pando from hull to get to Germany in May.

Thankfully, although I was going to ignore that rule as the fine was just about 11 euros....:cheerful:

That's good to know, funnily enough the shops that are selling the kits aren't telling the punters that! :0)

Reflective stickers is for French residents. Live over the border in Switzerland and have been stopped in France a few times and have never had the helmet looked at.
