i have a 15 plate sport and want to get a hugger without the hole in it as i think thats where the tiny chips on top of my swingarm are coming from...whats my options? wouldnt mind carbon but would prefer a satin finish. can i block off the hole? wouldnt mind if the chain guard was integrated. lets see what you got. :)

I got a fullsix Carbon hugger without the hole as soon as I bought my 16 plate as I'd read on here about the swing arm getting stone chipped.

The ilmberger rear hugger has the integrated chainguard, one piece. The hole is for the abs box under the seat but the bike cannot compress to there, so it's unnecessary and causes the damage you describe. After rad and cooler guards a rear hugger without the hole (non-abs version) is very worthwhile.

I was looking at the Moto GP safety bike up at Dundee today and as well as the belly pan being gloss finish I noticed the rear hugger is too. When I asked the salesman why the hole is there he told me it was to reduce turbulance that they found in a wind tunnel test. I doubt if any human would notice it but it shows the lengths that the designers and engineers go to grab every bit of advantage in sports.

Of course he might be talking rubbish but I tend to believe it as recently I did some experimenting with air flow around a motorbike windscreen and the results were incredible if you don't allow air to puncture a hole in a vacuum. The same principles are in action at the rear tyre of the S100RR, for those interested in aerodynamics google tobinators and be bored to death. LOL

Have the ilmberger hugger/chain guard one piece with hole. peppered my '10 swing arm. Ended up putting a tank pad on top of swing arm. Guess clear film would do similar

In the past I've used what they call Helicopter tape (it's used to protect the leading edge of a helicopter blade). It's a clear Polyurethane tape that's good for protecting exposed parts.

The clip that's integral to the hugger to secure the rear brake hose and speed sensor cable has started to wear the paint on the swing arm so I applied some of this tape. Good enough on mountain bikes to protect the frame.

+1 - I have this on my 2015
