First post to say 'hello'.

As as the title says, I'm planning to buy an S1000RR having test rode one last week.

I thought i wanted a Ducati 959 Panigale, but having tested one the week before, I didn't come away with that 'I really want it' feeling. On to the S1000RR and it felt good straight away.

I currently ride a VFR800 and a TMAX and have had a few sports bikes over the years - a 636, GSXR750 and two R1's, as well as many other bikes since the last R1 in 2008.

To to be honest, I had lost some confidence coming off an old TMAX at low speed late at night for no apparent reason. It turned out to be wet leaves bunched into the centre of the road after heavy winds during the day, so after the last R1, I wasn't planning to get back on sports bikes.

I commuted to the office a couple of times early in the summer (60 miles) and have really built back confidence (except in the wet!) so now commute by bike all the time.

So on to the S1000, I'm debating whether to sit tight and order a new MY17 in the new year, or pick up a used MY15. The sensible choice is to wait I think as its easy to forget how cold it gets on the bike when it's as warm as it is now, but I'll keep mulling it over.

Anyway, nice to join the forum and I'll update in due course.

I'm in the same boat as you rob, love the S1000 after having a couple of test rides, was ready to buy one but found the service from the local dealer a bit lacking. So as its getting late into the season I'm now thinking of waiting to see what 2017 brings. If the rumours are true the new blade and GSXR might be worth looking at as well.

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum. I think you are doing the right thing just to wait another month or so to see what is announced at the bike shows in October and November before committing to a purchase. I don't believe from the general rumours that the MY17 bike will be much different from the current model but it is a little unusual for BMW to stop production the way they have 'just' for an exhaust change and a couple of tweaks (if the rumours are believed). The japs seem to be well behind at the moment so they could do with coming out with something comparable or better to mix things up a bit more.

Hi Rob, Welcome - great intro piece.

I agree that it's now time to wait and see...see out the season on the venerable VFR and then get in touch with the dealers once you know what the new season will bring.

Welcome Rob, I think an S1000RR will suit your needs very well, don't forget its also the only sports bike to come with heated grips so you can ride out of season much more comfortably (cue heated grips temperature debate!!) and spec. cruise control to make life much more comfortable on those mundane bits of road :)

Welcome Rob... ditto the above comments. Whatever way if you leave a month or so winter weather will be on us and dealers will slow down, best time to pick up an attractively priced S/H steed even.

Dont dwell on the spill it will all return through time mate...mileage under your belt sorts that out.

Great intro Rob, If it was me in your position I would probably wait to get a great winter deal. If you know when the local BMW sales quarter is, it can be beneficial for haggling. They have targets to meet and sometimes you get very attractive prices or extra servicing thrown in.

Enjoy there shows coming up and good luck with your search. As Stuart says forget your wee off, time in the saddle and the extra confidence of traction control and ABS Pro will have you whizzing about in no time.
