I’m going in June but taking the car.

Haven’t done the Ring on a bike since 2014.

Would love to but very risky now and also quite often they stop bikes for the rest of the day if there’s been a spill.

Not trying to scare people but understand insurance implications if you have a crash.

I go every year but have stopped taking my own car around and hire something.

I have done The 'Ring several times, but always in a car. The approach roads in the area surrounding the 'Ring are great fun too. Especially if the 'Ring is closed due to rain or an accident, which is frequent and for several hours at a time if there is a fatality. B294 is an epic road, quiet, surface excellent and is almost like a road legal version of the Nurburgring

Useful information at the Official site here in English too. Buy your tickets in advance there, see which days are the Tourist days. Where to stay and eat etc. Lots of fun hanging out in the car park with other drivers and riders between laps.

Be under no illusion, this place is dangerous and when I used to go in 2005-2008 two people per week died there. Yes, two people a week, including a lot of bikers (they came off and got run over by the following cars or they didn't bounce well off the Armco). Ride at 8/10ths and leave plenty of bandwidth to deal with things whilst you're out there. 2-4 laps per day is often most people's mental limit. If it rains, they will stop riders going out on the road until it is bone-dry.

I drove the 'Ring in my Audi S8, Mazda RX7 (3rd Gen) and an airport rented Alfa 1.6 diesel - which was brilliant fun in the wet, not saying from which car rental company.....

There's a really good on-board video set at a fairly rapid pace on this site by a member (@Monners) on his GS1250, notice how everyone he passes is to the left of them and the Porsche 911 passes him on the left too. The FoxHole corner (Fuchsröhre near the 6km marker) approach down the hill and corner itself at the bottom is feckin' scary (see the video from 2:46). Even if you have done 1000 laps on the PS Gran Turismo sim, nothing, but nothing, will equip your brain to cope with the relief (rise and fall) of the road. I always treated the whole road as if I was driving a B-Road which I really didn't know, but I did, so that I had plenty in reserve to be able to react to as you rounded corners.

Good Luck, enjoy and have fun

Wow good memories, that was a really fun lap. I wouldn’t recommend it in fabric clothing haha. It’s a beautiful track, there really is nothing else like it now. It’s a time travel back to the old days when everything was a lot more raw. The best time to go is during the week when the crowds are not there. Bank holidays in particular are just horrific and very dangerous now imo. It is a very special place and everyone should check it out before the inevitable H&S man shuts it down as it gets too busy.

Be very wary on a bike about cars not seeing you especially if you are faster from behind. This is what can happen ! There’s a longer version on my YouTube that went viral after the event. Realistically bikes are generally slower than cars anyways since they don’t corner so easily so resist the urge to keep over taking cars on the exits if you do not carry the speed through the corners .
