hi fella. I go up to Northumberland a fair bit in the good weather, scenic route

best way to put up pictures is set up a free account with something like photobucket and use links. For your profile, go into the My Profile section when you are logged in to upload your avatar.

So if you go to your profile page, did you click on the edit button next to your username? What error did you get.
