Im having real issues after i wash my bike (bucket and sponge). First time i take it out ne in 1 hr later or 1 day it runs like a bag of crap. If i turn off and back on again its perfect. Thought it might be ecu but today the rear of bike got covered in crap due to wet muddy roads. I gave it a very quick jet wash off at work from behind from a distance only cleaning rear of bike and again it ran like crap on the way home. I pulled in turned off and back on again and all good. It cant be anything physical ie air filter getting wet or wires as ot wouldnt clear so quick. Thinking it might be pc5 but anyone got any ideas

I'm new to the s1k but having looked over mine i wouldn't put a jet wash near it. I've seen an electrical box exposed by the rear wheel below the seat open to the elements! id start there for water in the connecter plug

do they have a "limp mode" seems odd that its fine after a re start is why i say that.

Do you mean the rectifier (with its cast cooling fins)?

Yeah it could have been Alex, i didn't pay much attention to it after seeing it but it sounds like you describe. just noted to be mindful of it when washing etc.

I am in a block of flats so washing the bike is almost impossible with no water or electrcity...and 8 floors with buckets.

Oops headmaster has told us off! :p

It might be worth covering the rectifier next time with a plastic bag. Maybe a water barrier like vaseline on the connectors?

Not helping !!!

When you say it ran like crap, do you mean no power, spluttering, both? Are you 100% it is only when you wash it? I'm asking because I read about a similar experience excluding the washing bit, and the bike had a faulty part (think it was a pump) that only functioned correctly after a restart when the bike was warm.

Chances are the fault isn't related to the washing. How long has it been doing it? Does it work perfectly after you restart or does it only last a while then reoccur?

There's no need to worry about the reg/rec getting wet, there designed to be exposed to the elements in order to cool them as efficiently as possible. :)

When i say it runs like crap , its nothing like going into limp mode it sounds and feels like its "missing" ie a plug breaking down. Originally i thought thats what it was but like i say it cant be anything "physical" because of off/on fix. Its hard to tell if its ONLY happening after a wash as its 1 ride 1 wash this time of yr but it was happening back in the summer to. Completly different issue (i think) alex to the over heat thing as that proper ran like crap and wouldnt even tick over properly
