Hi everyone thinking of buying an s1000rr for my birthday in a few months so thought I should do some homework first.
So will have plenty of questions soon.

Welcome to the forum!

Felix speaks the truth [emoji6]
They are absolutely amazing bikes and I am sure that you?ll have no regrets purchasing one.

Very sensible joining the forum to find out more information before purchasing, though I am certain it won?t take long before you?ve gained all the reassurance you need that an RR is the right bike! [emoji16]
What sort of riding do you enjoy primarily?

Enjoy the forum, there is a wonderful community on here and loads of information [emoji4]

Thanks fellas I mainly go for rides on weekends with friends I have an r1 at the moment.

Believe it or not it?s 1998 original with a few mods but love the bike owned it16 years just nothing else floated my boat then decided time for a change.
Thought of Big Bang r1 or s1000rr.
I rode an s1000r and thought it was amazingly smooth so s1000rr seemed like the bike for me.
But haven?t decided what year to buy don?t know enough about the differences between them reliability issues or rideability etc so joined up to get the info and decide which year is for me.

I would recommend the 15+ s1000rr. Gen 3 they are called.
I owned a Big Bang R1, Honestly hated the bike but I was used to I4's since I started really..

Ok thanks don?t want to ask to many questions here probably not the right place so will ask some more questions in the Garage board.
Thank you for the welcome 👍

That?s great that you?ve had your R1 for so long, I am sure you?ve had loads of great experiences along the way?
Any highlights in particular?

Re what RR, I would whole heartedly recommend a Gen 3 bike (2015 - 2018).
Technically they are all virtually identical with the primary difference being Euro 4 compliance in 2017.
There will be an all-new RR for 2019, but this is likely to be ~ 18 months away.
The Gen 3 RR?s in particular have proven to be throughly reliable and technically very capable bikes, so you can purchase from a main dealer with full confidence [emoji4]

Yes the Gen 3 bikes are fitted with Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) as part of the ?Dynamic Package?. Make sure that whatever bike you are considering has both the ?Performance and Dynamic Packages? for full electronic functionality

That?s great thanks oli if gen 3 is the way to go I will probably buy new and choose the package.
As for my r1 many memories which is why I am keeping it but taking it across the mountain course of the tt this year was amazing.
I was lucky enough to get a set of carbs from vandm and oh my god what a difference.

Whilst I certainly wouldn?t talk you out of purchasing brand new if you intend to keep the bike long term, it is worth bearing in mind that there are good deals to be had on pre-reg 17 model RR?s which are identical to the 18 bikes.
This would be of particular benefit if you are likely to consider the next generation bike in 2019 or 20, for example?

Whatever you deicide you?ll certainly end up with an amazing bike and I am sure you?ll have many happy miles ahead of you [emoji4]

I am sure your Mountain course experience at the TT was fantastic!

I think you are right pre reg would be a good way to go as I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time.i imported a Mitsubishi evo in 2000 and only sold it this year.
If you have not been to the Isle of Man I recommend it but go when there is no racing and take in the course.the roads are in terrible condition and they still hold those speeds amazing.

Welcome Swty, what was that an Evo6? I imported an Evo 5 from Japan in 2007, sold it and bought a beautiful RC8 which I hardly rode (another story) then bought an Evo8 which I had for a couple of years. Bloody money pits but just fantastic to drive, what I should have done was buy a 7RS and keep it like you did, were you a member of the MLR?

Hi it was an evo 4 it was 4 years old when I bought it but wanted the first with yaw control.
Wasn?t a member of any groups and didn?t use the car much to be honest I put 3500 miles on it.
It was on 40k when I sold it
I tend to just use the bike which is why I want to buy a fresh bike I can keep.
My r1 is on 50k now

Hi swty, welcome to the forum and good luck with your bike search, good time to be buying. Whereabouts are you based?

Welcome to the forum.... take the bike.. you will never look back....well only when you are laughing at who you left behind before changing into 2nd...

Welcome, nice roads up your way, if you can avoid the cops! :)
I've had some fun on Anglesey with my old RR, I highly recommend it!

From '17 on the RR's only have one option pack so just make sure it's a 'Sport' with the Cruise Control and you'll have all the toys. I highly recommend getting a bike with the optional Forged Rims (Rough Matte black paint, 7 spoke (I think)). The standard cast rims are great but the forged rims are a bargain even at an additional ?1250 when specced from the factory.
