Airbox

It's there to meet Euro 4 restrictions as it's not found on the 2015/16 model.

what does he mean "it's going to be a problem?" ....is he implying the engine won't cope with the power gained from removing this & exhaust?? I'm intrigued to see how the 2017 shapes up with some tuning mods....if indeed the bike is producing 199bhp stock with that huge exhaust etc, then surely there is a substantial amount of extra power to be had?? Hmmmm:distant:

Indeed the definition of "problem" is subjective.
The 2015/2016 make 184 at the wheel on average.

Power

If the 2015/16 model is anything to go by I really wouldn't expect any significant increase in power when changing to a full system unless you go down the RCK route. That said I've never really understood why people have such an obsession with bhp figures especially on road bikes.

You have to fit a system to run track fairings on the 17...until someone makes a kit which fits the cat. So that's the obsession with the full system.

Also, for me it's about midrange.

I had my airbox open and couldn't see that at All? Anyone opened there's.

Or am I missing something
I haven't looked inside mine yet but heard someone else saying their 17 didn't have any restrictor in it?? Looks like Bren Tuning found one in theirs tho!

They achieved +5bhp at the top end by removing it but lost a little midrange. I would have thought all the 17s would have restrictor fitted especially if it's showing up in American stock?? I'll have a look inside mine to investigate and report back ;)

I had mine open, its in my showroom thread.
As expected its not in there.

This supposed piece must be US only. Their assumption that its for EU4 is entirely inaccurate.

They are a bunch of dicks those guys. Sorry Cavey :( but they are talking out of their backsides again.

US motor vehicle regulations differ from ours, as does their fuel.

Knowing how ridiculous US legislation is, they will likely have invalidated the warranty by removing the part lol. Maybe its a drinks holder that BMW decided to fit for the US market, cant imagine why?

hahaha....don't hold back there soof!:biggrin-new: i agree they do seem to be jumping to conclusions a bit!

I'd trade a little top end for some more low to mid range power

This is where a signal fudger and a decat can help, not top end.
The stock system has to pass emissions at at certain load/rev-range. A secondary fuel computer like a PCV, RapidBike EVO or Bazzaz can fill that intentional hole in the fueling back in at the cost of emissions. This has a greater effect when coupled with a decat.

The RapidBike (which I've not used) can also do timing changes.
