Hi all, new to the forum, did a quick search but didn't see anything jump out straight away and there are alot of posts :)
I'm about to purchase a BMW S1000RR (2016 or 2018), does anyone know what exactly is included when adverts say Performance package or Dynamic package?
Also, what is included if i bought a bike that has the 'base' pack?

I know this may have been asked before, but please be gentle and break me in softly :eagerness::witless:

From memory, the Performance package means you get the additional rider modes (user and slick).
User mode is customisable in terms of throttle response, traction control, ABS etc.
The Dynamic package means you get the semi-active suspension (Dynamic Damping Control ?DDC?).

Both options are highly recommended and are included in the ?Sport? model bikes I believe.

Another optional extra that represents good value for money at the time of purchase is the HP forged aluminium wheels, as in addition to being lighter than cast they also come with thicker discs.

I believe the base bike has conventional suspension and three non adjustable rider modes.

For what it is worth, the vast majority of RRs sold were fully loaded sport model bikes as the electronics package really does play a significant part in the riding experience.

If you purchase a 16 model, I would recommend keeping an eye out for the ?ABS Pro? feature, as this is cornering ABS and was fitted to some 16 model bikes. I believe from 17 onwards it became a standard feature, though if not ?standard? it will certainly he part of the respective ?Sport? model bikes.

Best of luck with finding your ideal RR [emoji41]

Hi Oli thanks.
So to recap, if i go for the 16, look for ABS Pro, User Modes and DDC, with the potential of forged wheels, I have seen one with a full titanium akra for sale just inside my budget :chuncky:
If i got for 18 just look for user modes and DDC
But generally look for the Sport model.
Do all Gen 3 come with up and down quickshift/blipper?

17/18 only had one package OPTION. Performance. The Dynamic was made standard.
ABS Pro can be retro-fitted but doesn't work in User mode...which is a bit of a loss and can make the update pointless. If you have a late 2016 you're more likely to have ABS Pro from the factory. It got added during that production run. 2015's will not have it unless added retrospectively.

2016 in black with forged rims...would have been my choice when I last bought, but I couldn't find one.

I'd go with the 16 but use the 18 as leverage to lower the price.

The 16 is way over valued if you compare to many 17's 18's.

If my 2017 was worth that I'd be over the moon.

Coming from a Honda dealer.... more likely someone has traded it in... they?ve done a quick health check valet on it and whopped 1000-1500 on the profit.

Yeah i think i was more tempted to go with the 18 and then just buy the parts to make it how i want it. Not really bothered about the wheels, a nice to have but can do without.
I'll keep my eye out for any steals, did have a 18 plate for 9995 with 5k miles, stock but unfortunately some bugger got there before me as i was waiting for lockdown to end and they wouldn't take a deposit.

I chose a fully loaded 16 with lots of Motorad extras over a newer 17 but it was a grand cheaper ,no idea what its worth now dont care just want to get the tyres sticky and ragged

There is little to none difference between 16 and 18 models. To my mind 18 comes with a slightly different throttle but that's it.

I would go with a performance pack.

Don't forget to get ECU flash from rs2e - that completely revamps traction control, especially if you will track it.

Indeed, The reflash options are greater with the '18 model for sure - uses a more powerful ECU. But out of the crate it's more restricted. Does depend on the use case.

It's my old Gen 3, never had any issues with it. I bought it secondhand 18 months ago and previous owner spent ????s on it. It looks stunning in the flesh, perfect balance of carbon and black/grey in my opinion

Slightly more expensive but it's a phenomenal bike

Yeah i saw this, i bought my last bike (the R) from Bahnstormer and had all my servicing done there too, also got to test ride the new RR M Sport and a 1250 GSA and 850GS (was a loan whilst they did some warranty work).
Bit out my price range unfortunately.

Question, the Pit limiter and Launch Control what do you need to have to get those?
