I?ve owned these boots for ~ 3.5 years now and have covered ~ 50 K miles in them. My riding has been almost exclusively road riding all year round and several UK summer track days too. I purchased these boots from the lovely ladies at Hideout Leather (Please see my review of Hideout Leather for more information).
Fit/Comfort: I have very wide feet, like Hobbit wide, room for 6 toes wide, so as you can imagine it?s a tad difficult getting comfortable motorcycling boots. That being said, I?ve found Daytona to be the widest fitting road boots available (For anyone interested in off-road riding, I highly recommend Gaerne SG-12?s). The Evo Voltex boots are my second pair of Daytona boots (the fist being the Roadstar GTX) and these are indeed a comfortably wide fitting boot and I can?t imagine any of you having issues with these. My one recommendation on improving comfort would be to purchase a full length ?orthotic? innersole for these boots and any other boots that you happen to ride with and walk with, as the first benefit is additional arch support which not only helps to prevents tendonitis, but the second benefit is that it provides an additional layer to help dampen vibrations though the rear sets (particularly useful for us road riders).
The boots have a relatively quick break in and once broken in are genuinely all day comfortable. That being said, they?re definitely not designed for extended walking as are very ridged and in the height of summer can get quite hot due to being a fully Gore-Tex lined boot. But for road and occasional trackday riding, these are very possibly the best all-round boots you can buy.
Features/Construction: The Daytona Sport and Race spec boots are based on a very rigid inner boot which allows for plantar flexion and dorsiflexion, but not inversion or eversion of the ankle joint. On the Evo Voltex boots, this inner boot is made of, for want of a better word, plastic, whereas on Daytona?s Race spec boot the Security EVO 3 and EVO 3 GP, the inner boot is made of aramid kevlar (Offering even more rigidity). On the GTX variant of the EVO Voltex boots, the Gore-Tex lining is within the inner boot. Your foot is held in place within the inner boot by three velcro straps.
The outer boot is purely for abrasion resistance, and is made of cow hide with additionally thick areas where most wear would occur through riding and/or a crash situation. There is a CF heel guard and metal toe sliders and the sole of the boots are race style, but are apparently more durable than the sole found on the Security EVO?s to offer better wear characteristics for predominantly road riding. There is a fairly considerable range of velcro adjustment on the outer boot at the back of the calf to create a good seal against leathers, and the single zipper fasting system that runs diagonally across the boot apparently prevents the zipper separating in a crash. There is a velcro leather flap to keep the zipper toggle flush against the boot providing a smooth surface when interacting with the bike.
Durability/Value for money: These boots have been used for everything from commuting, to weekend blasts and track days and have, in my mind, held up really rather well. During those ~ 50 K miles, I?ve had two holes wear in the left leather outer boot (Which were either patched or re-stitched free of charge from Hideout leather whilst I waited) and the soles have started to get rather worn in the usual places, particularly on the left (I blame the Gen 3?s autoblipper for the needless and constant shifting up and down the box lol!).
Now, as far as I am concerned, these boots are fantastic and I truly believe they are the best all-round sporting boots available. I also think Daytona make some truly first class products and so I wholeheartedly recommend them. There?s no getting away from the price, which is certainly intimidating at a RRP of ?675, but minor repairs can be carried out at Leather specialists such as Hideout leather, Daytona offer full refurbishment services for all of their boots and, crucially, you can purchase the outer and inner boots independently of each other. For example, I shall be purchasing a replacement set of outer boots at the end of the year once these soles are truly knackered as the inner boots are still in tip tip condition.
Hope this review has been useful to you,
