coding plug

could be a silly question here.
I have just been going through the stuff i got with my bike today and found the red coding plug.
Is it ok to install this and leave it installed full time?
Am i correct in assuming the red coding plug lets you access the slick mode and the rest of the modes?

Hi just bought a 2010 s1000rr and no slick plug. Grrr. Any idea how much they cost? Have heard about some trick with a 100ohm resistor being used instead. Anyone have any info???????
