Re: Brembo Z04 Front Brake Pads

Now I've got my BMW back I can get it ready for the first trackday of the year. Last season I was using the dual compound HP race brake pads which were very good but I've gone through two complete sets rather quickly. I've now opted for a set of sintered Brembo Z04 race front brake pads which I managed to find on special offer. The Z04s are normally outrageously expensive and the price is escaberated by the extremely irritating design of the standard OEM Brembo calipers used on the S1000RR. However, they are quite simply the best brake pads that I have ever used for race and track use and last surprisingly well.

To get the most from the new Brembo Z04s my brake discs needed to cleaned thoroughly. This is because the HP race brake pads left a thin, uniform dark-blue layer of material on the discs after bedding in. To avoid any pad contamination and negative effect on braking performance this needed to be removed. I have also checked the thickness of the brake discs on both sets of wheels for wear and neither set require replacing. To finish the brake system refresh I've also fitted an alpha Racing rear brake reservoir and replaced my season old brake fluid with fresh Castrol SRF fluid and completely bled the system.

Spill the beans, where did you buy the pads, I use these outrageously expensive pads....

Brembo Z04 Front Brake Pads

I purchased them directly from Mode Performance who are Brembo's UK distributor. With an ACU race discount they charged ?112 (+VAT) per caliper which works out at nearly 20% off RRP.

Thanks for sharing Ryan, great reading and I'll bet you can't wait to get back out again.
Ill do my usual pre season checks too, which involves looking for the key then giving the tyres a kick :eek:nthego:
No half measures here.
Love your carefree attitude Loupe, frighteningly refreshing...lol

Brembo Z04 Front Brake Pads

Even with an ACU discount they are certainly not cheap when buying a complete set but they are unbelievably good for track use.

Brembo Z04 Front Brake Pads

They are the best brake pads that I have ever used on track and if I ever went racing again I wouldn't use anything else.

Yeah, but will they last four times as long.
If anyone wants to buy me a set to test,I'm game!
In the mean time I'll stick with SBS Dual Carbon-I haven't been outbraked yet!

Brembo Z04 Front Brake Pads

I was tempted to purchase a set of Brembo GP4-RX brake calipers for this season. Not for any particular increase in braking performance but simply as race brake pads are just so much cheaper than those for the OEM calipers. Suffice to say the funds were used for rebuilding the bike following my crash at Snetterton.

Great write up Ryan
Keeping it interesting and informative!

Since Ive only had Sept onwards of ownership & 4k wet road miles I haven't even checked my pads.

Could you please expand on what is mentioned about the pads?
The standard s1000rr gold Brembo callipers use different brake pads to the hp4 Brembo Monobloc (100mm) M4 callipers?
As such these pads on the stockers are more expensive to replace then M4's?

Front Brake Pads

The standard OEM Brembo brake calipers on the S1000RR use 4 individual brake pads on each caliper. The Brembo M4 calipers on the HP4 only use two brake pads on each caliper. Performance wise they are pretty much identical but brake pads for the latter are much cheaper.

Ryan, which color is your Cox Radiator and Oil Cooler Guard? Can't really see it on your pictures.
I have the same bike colors and doubting between black or titanium.

Cox Racing

I have the Titanium version fitted.

Just trying the dual carbons myself this year. I only ride in the dry and mostly in spain so im hoping i can get enough heat into them with my "pedestrain" pace

Dual Carbon Brake Pads

They are very good brake pads but I found that they didn't last particularly long.

They will at my pace 😂😂😂
