So, my rear commuting tyres has come to its end... tread in low and square too....

My front Michelin Pilot Power 2CT - (same as rear) is still like new... reading the reviews about the M7RR, I would like to change my rear to this...

Would you advise mixing tyres or swap both......

Thanks

You've said you're going on track in July. Please change both or stick with the 2CT for another rear.

FWR would be a good shout to go for the tyres.

I think Pirelli might be doing a deal on the similar Rosso 3's (M7RR and this are virtually identical, bar tread design).

I have fitted odd in the past, street and track although not advisable. No adverse effects but then am I good enough to tell? You would no doubt have a problem with insurance if involved in an accident though....

Re: Tyres

If its in good enough condition just sell it on eBay, although don't expect to get too much for it.

That thought had crossed my mind, but as you say, it wouldn't be worth much.
I'll probably end up sticking with k3, as the only complaint I have is that it isn't lasting very well on the abrasive road surfaces where I live.
I don't tend to use the bike on wet roads often, so grip wise they are fantastic for how I use the bike.

Hi Amit, I spoke to a Metzeler designer about this a few years ago and he told me never to do it, if only for the reason that the front tyre is designed with the purpose of getting rid of as much surface water from the road as possible to allow the rear driving tyre to get the maximum available grip from a wet road, something I know you ride on. The front pattern is designed to work in unison with the rear pattern.

He was quite a knowledgeable guy as you would expect and had a real passion not just for tyre development for tracks but he saw the road tyre as more of a challenge to get right as it has far more variables to cope with.

Just buy two new ones and sell the front.

Thanks for the concern all... I went for a like for like replacement on the rear... I guess the time the new rear is worn out, they both will be ready to change.....

But for knowledge, what sort of milage do you get out of you front tyres... just normal road usage?

need to sort those chicken strips. (only joking.lol)....im finding i need to swap the front and rear at the same time. in days gone by it used to be 2 rears to a front now its about 2 rears to 1 1/2 fronts. so now its pairs every time for me. m7rr's are doing about 2000 miles. sunny dry fast road only.

:hopelessness:

They have only been on for 2 days.... and just to get to work and back... 12 miles of riding into Central London

Hopefully they will be gone by Sunday's Forum meet :)

I always give the tyres 100 miles of easy riding before leaning too far over, the release agent used in the mounds is quite slippy, enjoy your meet up Amit.

no release agent nowadays.. but worth taking steady for a few miles as the grease monkey that fit them wont of washed his hands. i give mine about 10 miles and the forget and push on.lol

Tyres are now officially scrubbed in after throwing them into the corners around Lincolnshire yesterday .... left hand PB of 45 degrees
