Hey guys, looking at exhausts for the 2015 s1000rr and I'm stuck for choice...I want opinions on which full system to get. Which exhaust do you think is the best sound and looks wise? I like the look of the akrapovic long can but worried it isn't that loud, any help appreciated. Cheers.

Hi Ben

Do you intend to use the bike on U.K. Track days?

I have a 15 RR with the new style Akra Evo system and I love it, has transformed the bike!
Would highly recommend it, however you must be aware that you will have problems passing fly-bye noise tests on U.K. Trackdays.

Sound wise, I guarantee you it is loud, sounds great (not too sharp)!

Regardless of what exhaust you go for, I'd suggest removing the secondary air system as the popping and banging on closing throttle at ~ 4K rpm is very loud, and in my opinion, gets kinda of annoying after a while lol.

Do you have the db-Killer optional extra?

Yes, I failed the fly-bye at Snetterton during the day by 4 Db with the Akrapovic baffle fitted.

I've had the baffle extended since by MHP exhausts and apparently it can still spike a noise meter at Snetterton if you shift at redline by a noise meter (lent it to someone with the same bike to test it)

Passes a static test with the baffle fitted with flying colours, but as we all know that's no use lol

I was going to send mine to MHP too...maybe a track 'can' will be the way to go [emoji53]:/

Yea I agree, a much larger can with significantly more wadding would be the way to go.
The problem with extending the baffles to ridiculous lengths is you take a massive hit on power output, not to mention getting an additional fuelling map made for the baffle :(

Wonder if the can make something which replaces the midpipe...
Need to send it to them anyway to remove the crash damage.

Possibly, like a resonance chamber (see Kawasaki H2), although I'd still be surprised if it reduces it enough though.
I've got a friend with a bespoke MHP exhaust for an R1M, which has a large can and two resonance chambers in order to pass Snetterton's fly-bye noise test without a baffle (took a lot of trial and error).

The problem is, by the time you factor in the cost of a new can, baffle and or link pipe and tuning you're into big bucks ??? :(

I think UK trackdays are under serious threat to be honest ... even some stock exhausts are failing these days!
Euro track events are going to get more and more popular

I think all RR's are marginal and if you rev it out past the mic you're 99% sure of trouble. I tend to shift at 12-13...

I'm sure there'll be a solution to this, probably with a track can and baffle as the old style Akra Evo system is used by RyS1000RR without too much trouble.

I just find the idea of having to short shift on track ridiculous, I mean there race tracks ffs, don't councils have anything better to do lol!

Well, I need it tested as is first.

Yea of course, will be interesting to hear how you get on though as there don't seem to be many people with this exhaust.

Sure did sound sweet on your Jerez video!

Hi guys, Much appreciate all the comments.

I don't know what I'm looking for really, I want it to look the part and sound the part and also want it to be obnoxiously loud haha, I like the look of the Akra but have read comments about it being quiet : <

Sorry about the hijack before.

Can you clarify which Akra is 'quiet' as there are a number of designs.

Exhausts

If it's just for looks and noise then I would maybe suggest you are probably buying a full exhaust system for the wrong reasons. Exhausts from the likes of Akrapovič et al aren't designed for noise but instead for performance. They also have to meet race noise restrictions which are only a little bit louder than trackday limits. You would be better off buying a slip-on exhaust from the likes of SC-Project or AR. You may also want to have a look at the US Forum as they seem quite obsessed with noise.

Akrapovič

The traditional shaped, full length exhausts from Akrapovič are generally quite quiet and always have been. Their newer race exhausts which feature a tapered design are only a little bit louder but the difference is enough to fail UK trackday drive-by noise testing.

+1 on the hijack, sorry for getting off topic.

You'll certainly save yourself a lot of money and effort going with one of the above mentioned slipons, and they'll still be loud.
However, if you genuinely want obnoxiously, as loud as possible, then you are going need to ditch the cat and go for a full system (unless there's a decat link pipe available for 15/16 OEM headers) with the shortest silencer possible, Austin Racing would be my recommendation.

Good luck with your exhaust quest, I'm sure you'll be happy regardless which exhaust you choose! [emoji16] (that's my face every time I turn my bike on btw lol)!
