Putting my nicely slick shod wheels back into position, I had a mental relapse and removed (bet you've already guessed it) the left leg spindle bushing. Yeah I know I know you don't need to remove it as in all the other bikes I've owned.
however, I've reseated the bushing back up against the shoulder as you do with every other bike on the planet. Now here's the thing, the book says it's to do with the distance between the abs sensor and the abs ring. I have not got a problem with that, (I've checked it and the lamps go out after riding the bike)my question is are the forks now Parralel with each other.
Such a cock moment and I should know better with my engineering background. I'm old an dementia runs in my family you see.
i think it best to give Northampton BMW a ring in the morning.

I don't see why they wouldn't be parallel if the abs shows no error when the wheel is spinning.

See what I mean though soof. Potentially the forks (could) be narrower or wider at the spindle. I'm probably over thinking the situation.

If it was in wrong the disc would not align in the middle of the brake calliper ?
so can't see there's a problem

Ditto.
If the spacer is fully home, using OE wheels, the sensor clearance has to be correct.I would suggest it is more important the discs run central in the calipers.
When swapping forks,I have always pushed the spacer fully through to its stop and never had an issue(and the discs were central in the caliper).

Thankyou guys, I really appreciate it. Baz, I have restored the bushing fully home like you say. It's just the web is full is story's of what I have done and I'm not alone it appears. Some folk have a sharp intake of breath and say BMW will have to reset it again. My last Suzuki GSXR manual said to install it fully home.
The bike is on its hols to Spain next weekend so I need it right you understand.
i'm just going to leave it and rip up Almeria and Pussey my way round Andalucia :purplebananna:

Ok been out with verniers and feelers. Good news, the gap of front sensor is 0.6mm against thr rear of.......0.6mm. So the gap is same front and rear. The calipers are very slightly offset, but to centralise would have an even smaller clearance of the front sensor, so l'm leaving well alone. 0.6 mm is bloody small hen you think the abs ring is just a bit of pressed steel ffs's. So I'm happy man thanks.
