Well picked up my new 2011 s 1000rr about 2 weeks ago and it's bust already.
Thank god I bought it from a dealer and not private
Turns out the ticking noise was a worn lobe on the camshaft which in turn wrecked the valves so a complete top end engine rebuild.
Bmw aren't helping out with anything as far as I'm aware
So it's down to the honda dealer I bought it from to fork
Out for the repair.
Looking online I see it's a common enough fault
Just hoping when I get it back it won't go again
Doesn't instill of with confidence as I'll be using it everyday for commuting

As long as the honda dealer uses the updated parts you'll be fine - shame that someone obviously traded it in knowing it was a hand grenade.

Is it a common problem on the bike or is it just the 2010/2011 model
The honda dealer is actually the distributor for honda ireland so it's a big outfit
he isn't actually doing the work on it he's giving it to a big bmw dealer to do in dublin so hopefully fingers crossed they add in the updated camshaft etc

No problems with my '10 top end at 15k. You are always going to hear of bad things on forums but think of the 1000's that have no trouble.
