another question ::) does a standard bmw alarm come with a immobiliser too
ta

Most probably, but the in-built key immobiliser must be be good enough.

As for insurance not recogising the alarm, I was told my BM that they were not prepared to pay the dosh for Thatcham testing but that could be BS sales talk.

The immobiliser is standard on the bike (or so I believe). The alarm is the plug-in and not Thatcham approved (so why bother if insurers don't recognise it?). I did hear the same story from my dealer regarding BMW not wanting to pay the cost of approval.

As alarms go, it isn't great, and if it hadn't have been already on the bike when I bought it, I wouldn't have bothered. For example, by design, it deactivates after a few days to conserve battery. Sounds naff as well.

I just ran a quote through confused.com, with my Almax series 3 chain it was £277, so I removed the chain and replaced it with the BMW factory fitted immobiliser, insurance went up to £380 lol.

well that says a lot and i was quoted £325.00 fitted for a bmw alarm if required .. the tossa

i have since sourced a tracker for 200.00 and a fee of 12.50 p month which i dont mind so may go for that as and when required. does not need to be wired in has its own battery life.So isues with possible bike battery drain..

Had a tracker on my cossie, had it laid up and overlooked the expiry by a month in which time it was nicked (makes you wonder eh) They had 5yrs of payments from me but wanted 400 squid up front to re-activate it thieving bastuds! Got me by the nuts.....However, paid it, found within 2hrs, then cost me £200 release fee! Wanted to transfer contract to the bike but "wasnt transferable, new contract needed". Not even a goodwill discount.
