Try swapping the wires over. I had the same problem with a 2011 z1000. Turned the wires around and they were fine.

I've just purchased and fitted an austin decat pipe and ultimate gp can from nec bike show. Fitted it with my mate in garage yesterday. Took 3 hours and worst part was cutting the cat off. Went out today and it sounds awesome. They have the cans at the nec to take away if you want.
