heat can be a problem, mine got up to 111degrees the other day and the generator burnt out shortly afterwards, not hot enough for the warning light to come on. I've checked the function of the light and the fan with the gs911 and both seem ok. bikes had new coolant and oil and i've reversed...

all working again 14.1 -14.2v at tickover and all revs (battery voltage .2v higher). see how long this one lasts!

yep - mine was giving 14.4v until it wasn't - it took 3 days to fail completely - luckily the battery was still over 12v.

FYI. just had a look at the online parts; and generator is same part number for gen1 2 &3 RR and the R. XR has different number. reg rec is same part number for all. anyway have pre loved one i'm in the middle of fitting - so should be good to go (tempted to buy another spare just in case!)

update, got replacement from m+p no probs - but it's just failed after 2800 miles - i've fitted a voltmeter to keep an eye on things and it started playing up on the way back from spain - it got me home with a battery swop and is now all down to earth, so not charging at all - but was...

Mines always been ok under 100 db with no baffle - but it does seem to be getting louder - repack kit soon me thinks. (full akra system on 2010) - never had to put the baffle in yet. (sorry about the capitals)

not yet. I've fitted a new one now so no rush, tried a few local IT places got one more to try that's been recommended otherwise might have a go with the Stanley knife myself. BUT on the Brightside got a trip down to Spain next week - so worry about it when I get back, might even post some...

Well it's finally gone, after 35000 miles and 9 years - trip switch - I've swapped in a mates - but horn doesn't work on that. New one on order from BMW £213 - doesn't seem to be a freebie any more. Anyway, had the old one apart and seems to be a dry joint between button and printed circuit...

mine's going in for 36000 mile valve check - i gather they rarely need doing. Has anyone ever had to have any changed? cheers
