    Rear break soft on RR

have a look at the caliper sliding pins, mine felt ok in that you could move the caliper / piston by hand, but a good clean and regrease sorted it out after all that pads, bleeding and disc run out malarky (only took me 6 years to do!)

Fitting of Ohlins SD038 Steering damper question

would need to check, model number but the ball joint end is available in 2 sizes, the one for bmw is smaller, but the bigger one will fit but restricts movement unless you take a couple of mm off the damper round the joint (only needs to be yoke side) i used a harris mounting bracket to fix the...

2011 gen 1 electrical acc wire

there is a switched lead on the RH side of the headstock 12v can use either bmw plug or positap into the leads is easier. i've also run a transformer off the battery to charge the phone and stuck it under the pillion seat, the transformer not the phone!

    2012 Rear Shock

HM racing can do them, was going to get mine done (gen1) but have since got hold of a low mileage stock one, was going to put on, whilst they do it, not got round to it yet. Just put a bit more sag on the back of mine (finally after 7 years) seems to have sorted it (was getting a bit of a "kick"...

Lean angles on track - when do you run out of tyre?

i mostly use rosso corsas so the profile might be different, but i've had an old 4xv r1, 2 gsxr1000s k6 and k8 and the bmw gen1, and 30 cold has been my default for years, always have a little bit left on the front and right to the edge on the back, i've demoted myself to the inters these days...

Lean angles on track - when do you run out of tyre?

agree about pressures 30 30 to start for track, what was dmc12 running? looks like might be high, always get off the edge on mine (not the front)

    Will these fit?

I've got the gilles variobars on mine and am very pleased with the position, just enough to take the weight off your wrists. I think the only difference on gen 3, from 1/2 is the bar is slightly longer, so for instance switch mounting hole needs to be different dimension

    Heated Grips

Gen1, will be interested to see how you get on with this, I think i might wait until the shops are open and can physically inspect some of this stuff, suppose could order it on sale or return, but don't like going to the post office. in the meantime i've got some gerbing battery powered gloves...

    Heated Grips

I think it was alpha racing, i got it from park lane bmw 5 or 6 yrs ago as part of a quick action throttle conversion was about ?80 at the time for the throttle, bracket and renthal grips

    Heated Grips

the switch gear clips to the prong sticking out from the grip and the one bolt holds everything in place. there is an aftermarket "bracket" you can get to replace the grip and hold the switch in place, but its maybe 10mm thick and forms a larger diameter ring next to the switchgear, so if you...

    Heated Grips

i got a QA throttle, with renthal grips (think it was alpha racing) on gen1 and that came with a little bracket to replace the grip and hold the switch in place. only problem i'm looking at with the yam ones is it will stand the grip off the switch by about 10mm which won't look great. or i...

    Second Lithium Dead

was a fairly basic one off ebay, found link, think it was around ?6, choice of LED colours, mines blue. it's about 50x25x5mm thick, can't remeber how long the fly lead was, probably about a foot. think it might have come with sticky pad. i didn't use the bracket...

    Second Lithium Dead

after 2 pattern generators and the original bmw "burning out" I've wired a digital voltmeter into the switched accessory socket RH side of the headstock with some positaps. pleased to confirm the SH bmw generator is still charging nicely. It's still on the original reg rec, although I did try a...

    tyres for S1000 RR

just a note on wear, the bm came with bridgstones which were ok, switched to my favourite rosso corsas and eventually to 200/55 on the back. I've used these on track and on my gixxer they were good enough to find a slick shod track bike was holding me up, so no probs there. I've not done a track...

A little experiment... Highest miles with the least amount of issues??

forgot, also had to replace clutch microswitch and the return spring on the actuating arm. slight play in rear wheel bearings at 22k, replaced those and front, which also needed the rim rolling out due to slight dink. lost a bolt out of the sprocket cover and the little plug on the end of the HP...

A little experiment... Highest miles with the least amount of issues??

46,000 on my 2010, chaffed wiring loom around 18k Generator failed around 35k (as did a couple of pattern replacements, SH BMW one sorted it). LH switch gear (trip reset) around 35k. think there was a recall for fuel sender gasket when I got it. Major service (18k) at dealers, rest by me...
