    The Sump Issue

Think it's not likely someone will make an upgrade as long as BMW are replacing them free. Also, no avenue for a 'racing' upgrade as the sump needs to be the homologated one for everything other than motoGP, as I read the rules. That's the reason it's made of self destructing magnesium on the...

    The Sump Issue

I've taken to hosing the sump down in WD40 or ACF50 (whatever is on the shelf) when I come back and there's been any wet roads. Welcome to 1976 :rolleyes-new:

    HP4 Brake Issue

Have to agree it sounds mechanical (brakes dragging and heating up enough to bind solid?) as I presume when you were trying to push it off the road, the ignition was off. Not sure if there'd be a valve in the ABS which would actually trap pressure in the line especially with no power going to...

    Anyone with MCE Insurance?

Just had to change over bikes (getting rid of the BM) less than a month before end of Bikesure policy. Emailed them about it and they called back to give me a few options. Ended up both bringing forward the renewal date (so I had the additional full years no claims out of 11 months cover on...

    Slippy seat

Grip the tank with your knees properly? If the tank is too slippy, use stomp grips or techspec tank pads to give you better grip. Pretty sure you'd need a velcro seat to stop you slipping forward if you're not using your legs properly - and that'd just mean your leathers would mash the old...

    Anyone with MCE Insurance?

Actually paid slightly more to stay with Bikesure due to some of the feedback I had from mates with MCE policies. Cheap for a reason it seems. Fine if you never have to contact them in any way - a mate did get paid out without issues on a fairly standard own-fault crash. Can't imagine them...

Clutchless Downshifting On BMWs - Auto blippers

Point being a blipper rev-matches, meaning there is no load when downchanging. Just like a quickshifter cutting load on upshift, but is a bit more complex - as the bike does have to physically up the revs in the time between one dog disengaging and the next engaging. Done right, there is...

So, Just how comfortable is the s1000RR Sport.

Only thing that starts to smart on long journeys is my knees. Probably my lack of any meaningful flexibility though - plus I always ride on my toes. Daresay a change of rearsets or taller seat would help also.

Clutchless Downshifting On BMWs - Auto blippers

Not sure why the downer on it? I guess you've unplugged your quickshifter? Proper race bikes haven't used the clutch for anything other than pulling away at the start for years... Sure, this system is probably for ease of use rather than pure laptime, but race-bred blippers are a performance...

3000 miles in one week anything I should buy?

I got a cheap Chinese one as proof of concept - now I've decided it works for me, something like that is on the cards later in the year when the cheap one scratches up. Tons of brand and non-brand options on the bay of fleas.

3000 miles in one week anything I should buy?

Resisted the double bubble for ages, 'cos I don't like the look, but it's certainly transformed the comfort on long cruises - no need to duck into it at sensible motorway cruise speeds and my back and neck is long for my height (6 foot). You can get those little clip on paddles for the throttle...

What have you done to your bike today

Yeah, can see it probably will - at that money, though it's almost a consumable! Certainly made a massive amount of difference on a long run recently - got a neck like a giraffe and the standard height screen was leaving me with a really sore neck + headaches after any time in the saddle. Now...

What have you done to your bike today

Checking oil at the weekend, discovered it was a bit low (couple of mil just above min when hot) Figured it isn't out of the question for a rebuilt engine to use a little oil, so ordered the proper unicorn sweat from Opie Oils. Arrived today. Getting it up to temp - realise that the oil has...

Sump replaced free by BMW East Kilbride

BMWs attitude to this is a bit surprising. There's clearly an issue - similar to Nick, mine failed in very quick order after seeing the sump looking pristiine on a bench. Dissimilar metals is what keeps popping into my head as well - whether it's the sump plug, or heatshield, something is...

What have you done to your bike today

Bolted on a Chinese double bubble screen (for a whole £12 + shipping) to see if it makes a noticeable difference to my neck on long runs. Have to say, was a bit shocked at how good the quality seems to be (apart from a slight mismatch of the furthest forward bolt holes - which the rubber bungs...
