23rd July Soof. Ferry from Newcastle to the Dam 9pm to 9am so we'll have a gargle on the overnight boat, kind of hoping to stay Heidelberg area.. do the 500 on the way down to Switzerland. Were hoping to do.. Grimsel, Furka, Gothard and Simplon passes.. that Simplon looks awesome..possibly the Stelvio if we've time. Kind of dont want to be doing more than 5 hours a day in the saddle as we want to stop and see the place..

I ordered the Pitbull Trailer Restraint System from the USA last week and it arrived today. Very pleased with the build quality, design and ease of use. Installation was straight forward with only four bolts to fit and took a couple of hours, taking my time to ensure the hole positions were clear from obstructions under the bed of the van.

Thats good, if you own a van you can drill holes in!
Are you using a front chock?
Whats the process to load if there's no? Just hold it upright and get the rod through the axle?

No front chock needed with this device and no straps either which makes the space around the bike more accessible.

To load when you have a sidestand, you push the bike up ramp and set on sidestand. Then attach the assembly which includes the horizontal bar, to the axle, then pick the bike up to vertical roll the bike forward and that horizontal bar catches into two lugs on the bracket bolted to the bed. Fit the two locking pins and thats it. Easy!

Ahh i see, yeah side stand would be an issue if its a track bike but its not like you couldn't chock it as well :)

The van is new (to me) too. Needed one for my business and found this little beauty with a perfect ramp for bikes already installed.vauxhall-movano-van-diesel_35893890.jpg

Without a sidestand, you attach the assembly before you push it up the ramp - it has little bushes on it which roll on the ground. You then just push it into place and it locates into the clamp in the same way.

Probably should start a thread of 'stuff I bought but don't really need, cause I have access to the interwebs.'

Does this thread include over the counter purchases ? If so I picked up this cracking Mallet from Screwfix for 6 quid... looks like a hickory shaft and heavy rubber head. Ideal for knocking those axle pins thru. I have to confess i've used a hammer frequently plainly obvious with the hammer marks on my rear lol. No further problems with this little beaut... it weighs 600 grams.

Good price. Says forged steel on the shaft lolol !
Sounds like yr axles need a tad of grease, mine just push out?

They do now Bananaman, when I changed the tyres in February the rear was solid, I buff wire-brushed it and greased it up, so should be a breeze, I bought it as a precaution....you will have yours off more than most don't forget.

Supersprox 520 conversion with Proti bolts and socket nuts and a FullSix side stand from Conquest Carbon with a superb Forum Premier members discount. Thanks guys for arranging such a great deal for us.

Nice richy. Good you're getting full use of the deal with CC.

Certainly more impressive than a wooden mallet lol.

I thought that without a pillion the bigger bottom shelf should be pointing forwards...holding the bag, is that right or wrong?

I reversed the rack so that it faces forward and the bag sits on it so the bottom of the bag doesn't scuff the seat cowl. Have you bought the waterproof cover? I have been very pleased with it and it sat perfectly stable on the bike at over 220km's on the autobahn

Another good idea is to buy the grab rail so you can swap the large rack over when not carrying the luggage. Really handy if you have a couple of days riding without luggage when you reach your destination. Bykebitz are a good start for all the accessories.
