Please can someone explain about tyre wear. I have just worn my front tyre to the tread wear marks so I presume that's about 1mm, however the rear still has nearly 3mm. As I am changing brands I know it is best practice to change both which I'm going to do. I always thought the rear would wear quicker first. I appreciate it is down to how hard I ride (or don't in my case) but I would like to understand the mechanics behind it. Why has the front wore much quicker than the rear. I would also like to try and understand if the rear wore much quicker than the front.

Have you had these both from new Richy ? Normally I get thru two rears to one front certainly on 3 gixxers 1 10R and 3 Blades...I think its the same for most of the guys on here. I bought my 4 sept last year with 2 really good tyres on it..but Im looking to change them soonish..as a pair tho

That is odd imo lol

Rears do wear quicker, I've never had a front go first, although the m7rrs are fairly even at the moment.

pressures possibly. It may depend on your style of riding. If you are very heavy on the front brake all the time then it would be likely for the front to wear faster.

I have had both Supercorsa tyres from new which came on the bike. The tyre pressures are front 2.5 bar (36 psi) and rear 2.9 bar (42) as per the manual. The front tyre is worn down to the indicator marks and the rear tyre has about 3mm left and I've done 3000 miles. The indicator mark on the tyres are all in the same part of the tread and they are all equally worn. I am not sure if I am heavy on the front brake. I've never used the bike on track and I'm not a very fast rider compared to others on here.

Something I thought was quite unusual too on my own bike. I have the supercorsas and have put them to the manufacturers psi, both tyres have worn at the SAME time.
I'm getting an average 1800 miles out of them with the rear centres gone and the front sides to the blocks.
This is my third set within the year and they cost ?350 a pair....
Im going to drop the pressures on my new set to see if I can get more mileage or even save the front a bit longer.

Here are a couple of pics of the front. I haven't got a decent camera like Loupe (or his balls by the look of his tyres) so i dont know how well they show up. Hopefully you can see that the front has worn down to the tyre indicator on one side only of the indicator on both the left and right of the tyre. Any idea why this is?

Here are a few of the rear, as you can see there is at least 2 or 3 mm more tread than the front and they have worn evenly.

Richy,
I have no idea why the front would wear down quicker than the rear?
Seems bizarre, maybe you're doing a MotoGP style wheel real lift as you come into every corner :smile-new:

Tyre Wear

Poor suspension setup and/or incorrect pressures can both cause excessive tyre wear.
