Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, currently looking at buying an S1000RR. So not an owner yet but I soon will be. Looking for helpful advice & general bike chat.
I live in Maidstone Kent so hopefully meet up with some local guys at some point. Must admit I've heard rumors that the early RR's had a few gearbox problems so it would e good to get a clearer picture from some genuine owners etc.....

I've always had Yamaha R1's but making the change after riding my mates RR... Currently own a 2010 BSB R1 Superbike from Rob Mac's old Motorpoint team. But that I up for sale now going back to the road.....may even P/X for an RR if anyone's interested.

Anyway, hello & I look forward to being part of this forum. :)

Hi n welcome i have a 2012 model which has had its fair share of issues Bottom end rebuild under recall, clutch spline replaced, gear box rebuilt, just had new quick shifter an other small issues. It aint just the 2010 bikes. The dealer has been reasonable all the way through although i have been very frustrated i would not swap my bike for anything else. When its going well it is brill on track n really comfy on the road with decent luggage an dont forget them heated grips ;D great bikes overall.

cheers simon d for the feedback, it seems all new bikes have some faults whenever they're launched.....regardless of the manufacturer.. ;)

Welcome mate, yep there are issues but even my last bike, a Blade had a recall. The probs are soon forgotten when you twist that throttle ;)

Cheers for the welcome guys going to look at a couple of 2010 RR's on Saturday, so hopefully report back my decision then....... :D

Hi, good choice ;D Yes theres always probs with new bikes but (touch wood, my head) i've not had any. ( i shouldnt keep saying that ::) ) What sort of figure you looking for the R1?

There was a run of problems with the new 2012 but they were recalled and sorted, any other problems are not year/batch specific, just bad luck. Ive got a very early 2010, 59 plate infact and its good as gold, never missed a beat. Although the gearbox isn't as silky as a map box, the rest of the bike makes up for it and then some.

I just put a post up of a 2011 on mcn , thats what i would look at
done 14 k on mine and loved every minute of it ( cept the bit where i left it locked tothe lampost)
in those miles i have had
new sump
new QS
new back light

nothing else , no conrod nonsense , gearbox , rattles ( yet)
If I had the time again Id buy the same bike 8)

welcome to the site mate, said it before but you will find all sorts of issues on here with the bike. but it's a Forum so this is where people ask for advise when they do have a problem. Fantastic bike

Hi Baz...welcome to the sight from a fellow newbie...collect my 2011 RR later this week.... ;D

Have you ridden an RR yet?? im a life long gixer owner....then I test road the BMW........you cant failed to be blown away mate...

hope saturday goes well :)

Rob

cheers again for the welcome's and views on the RR, I've ridden my mates 2010 RR and it's certainly in a league of its own, I've had gixxer's as well which have always been a solid bike, a bit vague on turning in & brakes but a good litre bike, but the RR does pretty much everything very well from my first outing..... looking forward to saturday if it stays dry.
