Hey up guys,

If i was to consider a de-cat pipe for my 2011 non sport would i also require a power commander?

Would the bike run sluggish or possibly cause problems without one?

Cheers

Christ mate you are going to make your mind up soon :- 26th Jan you had a full Akrapovic system on order, 27th you are asking about a slip on , today its a de-cat pipe. You use to be indecisive but your not sure now!!:beguiled:

But in answer to your question Austin Racing say their De Cat System does NOT require a Power Commander.

A PCV or Bazzaz etc. can only provide gains with zero ill effects so why not? Well worth it IMO.

Not really im pretty good for time as the weather is shat. I had to cancel the order on the full akrapovic due to something coming up that required the pennies i had saved. I asked about a cheap second hand slip on to put on whilst i saved up for the full system again. Managed to buy a slip on and was thinking about a De-cat to go with it.
Im going to be honest and say i dont know a great deal about the bike and what works and what doesn't thats the main reason i signed up on here was for a bit of support and knowledge.

Thanks

I know you say ar are saying they dont need a pc but mine certainly did. It hunted so badly on tick over it was horrible

Not sure about our s1000rr's but I de catted my gsxr 750 k8 and it improved it no end thought I would have needed a power commander but didn't, much better in the mid range.
Hopefully someone who has done it to their s1000rr will be able to enlighten you better
Good luck

I've got a 2013 S1000RR. Decatted and I run on super unleaded with K&N filter. No problems. Smooth as-you-like. Still thinking about a Hilltops ECU re-flash though.

Every s1000rr engine is different to a certain extent. You may feel it runs sweet after a de-cat when in fact it runs lean and is great up to the point it goes bang in 3 figure territory.... Manufacturers spend millions, maybe billions on design etc then joe blogs comes along and knows different. My point being at least have a dyno run to see if it's adequate after a de-cat even if you don't want it perfect. Why are you de-catting it? Do you want it to last? I always have mine done for piece of mind when i'm 'on it'

Dyno Power Run

A simple power run on a Dyno to check the A-F ratio will soon tell you if the bike is running too rich or too lean.

When I was at Buildbase BMW I asked the guys about fitting a PCV and they told me that the BMW engine would cope with a decat and they were right. Who would have thought it? LOL

Well i think i will get the De-cat and have it run on a dyno just to make sure its all good, cannot be arsed forking out a load of money for something as daft as not having it checked on the dyno.

There's a difference between coping and running right? I fail to see why money is spent on bling over having it running the best it can...imo lol

I agree with getting it checked on a dyno. The PCIII on my old ZX10R made a lot of difference to the mid- range by making it run smoother. The next ZX10R I ran with no PC and a decat middle pipe - it never ran perfectly, next job was a PCV. But I sold it before I went down that route.

When it went on the dyno the fuelling was miles off. Rich was an understatment

I noticed that Mina was selling a PCV so will spend the extra on that as well and have the de-cat fitted along with the slip on & get it straight on the dyno, seems like the safest option.Get the set up right before testing it without the PC. Will look for a local dyno spot sometime in the near future and get it booked in to do all the work in one go.

Wise choice, if only for piece of mind...
