Hi Everyone,

When I went in to order my new S1000RR, was told by the dealer that the rear pillion seat and pegs was (an expensive) option and the bike only comes with a rear cowl as standard...

Have found out from a BMW mechanic friend of mine that this isn't true - ff you buy a new Sport model, it is a ?0 cost option from BMW to swap the cowl for a seat and pegs.

Called my local dealer back, and he checked with BMW, and has now swapped the cowl for a seat and pegs at no cost.

Thought this might be useful to anyone about to buy a S1k, in case their dealer says the same and they actually wanted a seat!

My dealer told me from the start that if I wanted to take a pillion I will need to purchase the seat and pegs, which I did.

Maybe the devil is in the detail. It reads as though at new order, you need to delete the seat cowl from the spec, and then add the pillion seat and pegs.

It's not something I was aware of or ever heard of.

On that basis, it would make far more sense to buy the bike with the pillion pack for the same money as with the cowl, then buy the cowl seperately (and possibly sell the pillion pack on for a tidy profit).

The pillion pack was always a paid option on the HP4, no doubt.

Exactly - new orders only, only for Sport version, delete seat cowl, and get the seat/pegs as an option.

Friend showed me the option on his phone, wording is "Optional equipment available at no extra cost: Pillion seat and foot pegs**" then at the bottom of the screen "** Only available on S 1000 RR Sport Model"

Not sure if dealer specific, but looks to me like a standard option that some dealers just aren't aware of.

When I ordered mine last Feb, the pillion seat and pegs were a cost option - IIRC ?200 for the seat and even more for the pegs. Ordered the seat, was going to get the pegs s/h on ebay. Early March I got a call from the dealer to tell me that they'd just got a memo from BMW - seat and pegs instead of cowl was no a no cost option, so changed the order to seat and pegs instead of cowl and had the cowl as a cost option (IIRC ?255).

if anyone wants a swap...im after a white cowl and would swap my hangers and seat for it...15 plate

Rear Seat Cowl

When I ordered my S1000RR I was advised that I could have it delivered with either a pillion seat and pegs fitted or a rear seat cowl. If you don't specify a preference the bike will be delivered with a rear seat cowl fitted as standard.

Seat and pegs was around 450 so having them as standard and buying the cowl even at 255 was the cheapest option for me

When I ordered mine last January over the phone I asked if he'd throw in a pillion pad to which he agreed. I had to remind him numerous times but I did eventually get one , brand new with lock and coded to my key. I only wanted it for my tail packs.

I got mine last april and had to buy pegs and seat
seat cowl to buy is a cheaper option lol

for those that aren't aware, the 2012-14 model seat and pegs fit the '15 and are reasonably cheap on eBay ;-) ...BMW prices are silly.

thanks for the info, I was not given the option by my dealer and have a bike with no pillion seat or rear pegs as a result.... I will be on the phone to them 1st thing in the morning to see what can be done about it...

I wasn't given the choice either, wasn't even aware that the bike would come with no passenger seat and pegs. I ended up buying the seat from the dealers (~330?) (can't figure out why it only comes with 2 straps as there are holes and holders for 4) and the pegs from the forums.

So was in the dealers today highlighting the fact that I was not offered the choice...his response "we sold 30 of these bikes last year and no one asked for pegs and the pillion seat"........
My response to that..."well let me be No 1"
In fairness he has agreed to do the swap, my cowl for new pegs and seat and he didn't try and argue the point when I said I wanted that option...though he did have to see the option on the paperwork to believe it.

See if he'll sell you the cowl cheap Dazzer..........It's second hand now:highly_amused:
