Re: Discs and pads

At times you don't appreciate the wear on the final drive chainwheel, I forgot to measure the chain under tension...but I'll put it together then see where it's at..I feel the chain will be ok..it's done circa 10k.. rear sprocket needed changed for sure... new rear hoop on and rim nicely cleaned up....

Hi Stuart, My rear sprocket looked a bit like yours. I think part of reason for mine was the play due to the worn cush drive rubbers.
Thanks for the post

Waiting on cush drives arriving... sprocket mounted and torqued up, wheel balanced.... but my favourite bit tonight... fitting those captive spacers !.. I can see immediately fitting the rear wheel is going to be miles easier, big shout out to Loupe for the heads up..

Captive spacers are right up there with Dummy **** as THE best VFM Item ever....childless people won't get that comment...

No more wishing I was some sort of 10 minute freak with Three arms....no more wrestling with an axle pin, wobbly spacers, misaligned caliper guide and piece of 4x2 under the tyre...with sweat pissing off my forehead..... and just as the planets align... clunk.... ******* !

These should be Mandatory OE ...

Hi Paul, the spacer on the gen1 is different; on later models different spacers are needed for cast versus forged wheels. If you buy captive spacers check them carefully against the oem ones.

Fitted my Cush Drives, I didn't appreciate just how much the old ones were compressed hence the considerable play, now nice and tight...cleaned up inside of Swing Arm, new EBC rear pads, mounted rear wheel, the easiest ever with those spacers mind you it helped I was working at waist height, I'll be using those captives from now on they really are amazing...

Moved on to stripping body work...hit a rounded fastener and got the Dremel out..pays to have the right tool...

Body work is scabby as feck... that will be this weeks job.

BTW... check out that main headlamp lens..it's badly crazed..a word of caution if you want to burn +130s... I can only assume that's whats done it, might look at LEDs since I'm sticking on new body work.. I just hit 5k in posts ! Woop woop.

Sprocket and brakes are looking good Stuart, although I'd wipe away some of the excess copper grease in case it runs on to the disc :)
Bummer about the headlight, are you going to replace it?

My headlamp lense melted on my Gen 3, just ticking over in my garage. Standard bulbs too.
The lenses do get extremely hot even with the OE bulbs fitted.
Luckily I got my headlamp replaced under warranty.
I never let the bike idle for long now, if I can help it.
