If you own a 2015+ this is probably worth the 99p to rent/watch.

Interesting fact so far - from the factory it comes with no pre-load so no wonder people struggle till they see a suspension tuner.

That's an interesting video from DMT. My preload was wound fully out when I received my 2015 S1000RR for some unfathomable reason and it took quite a lot of track time and some internal fork changes to get the DDC to work properly for me.

MCT Suspension

I would highly recommend MCT Suspension for any DDC work.

I thought the preload was wound right out due to the bikes being setup for 75kg riders from the factory hence heavier riders would need to increase preload to set the sag. My sag is just in spec with both preload fully out. Might consider softer springs for this year

I agree with Ryan on this. I've just had my DDC suspension springs changed by Darren, the owner at MCT. He allowed me to "hover" over him while he carried out the work. Very informative it was too! He explained each step as he did the work. I had a softer rear shock spring fitted at the same time as the softer fronts, courtesy of Alpha Racing in Germany. I weigh in at 75kg all kitted out and couldn't achieve the rider sag recommended in the rider's handbook. The front and rear spring pre-load adjusters on my bike were also wound fully out and because the 2015 S1000RR is set up from the factory for a rider of 85kg I had nowhere to go in terms of softening things up. I think the HP4 is different in this regard as the bike is set up for a rider of 75kg. Darren also made some adjustments to the air gaps within the forks. After the suspension work was completed, he bounced the bike up and down on the front and I have to say that I've never seen the forks move that much since I've owned the bike! He set the sag, front and rear and we've ended up with the required sag with front and rear pre-load adjusters 2 lines in, so now I have the option of stiffening or SOFTENING the suspension if i need to, an option I never had before. In closing I would like to add that after the pre-load was set, I calibrated the DDC with no issues. After I got the bike home I managed a short ride out to assess the feel of things. First impressions are that it is a vast improvement over the very hard ride I have always complained of. I need some hot sunny days now to give it a proper work out, but I'm fairly confident that I'll at last be 100% happy with the set up.

Great stuff RR! Glad you've gotten some where with your setup which has lead to more enjoyment.

Hi I've got the same problem, I too weigh 75kg and mct is close too me, do you mind telling me how much the work cost? Did you have to supply the springs or did mct sort everything? Cheers

He sounds English but seems to be in the US. Anyone used JHS near Bristol? I heard good things about them but that was only from one person.

Dave Moss was born in the UK and is a US based suspension specialist and owns DMT. By all accounts he is very good.

Thanks Alex:encouragement: Just a quick update. Quite dry yesterday so took the bike out for a quick spin to double check whether the suspension mods really were an improvement over the original set up, and not wishful thinking on my part. Spent the time looking for pot holes, sunken man hole covers and raised ones too! Pleased to confirm it's loads better, though I know it's not the same as a "proper" run out at speed in dry conditions. I will probably have to play with the damping settings and maybe the spring pre-load settings too, but to be honest I can't wait:eagerness:

Hi Keith, Darren at MCT charged ?175. plus the dreaded VAT, to remove the front forks, dismantle them, modify the black plastic spacer at the top of the right leg (so it can now be compressed using standard compression tools and not have to use the BMW special attachments), changed the springs, checked the spring rates in the springs removed, checked the spring rates of those to be fitted and sort out the air gaps. He also removed the fuel tank, pivoted up the seat sub-frame for access, removed the rear shocker and replaced the spring. After reassembling the bike he took various measurements, got me to sit on the bike, took more measurements and adjusted the sag.

After reading posts on this forum and the other one, I found that springs for the DDC version were only available from specialist suppliers, such as Wilbers, (not sure of the spelling) or Alpha Racing. Even BMW were unable, or unwilling to help, only advising that I should seek the help of a specialist suspension firm!.....So I purchased my own springs from Alpha Racing. This mainly due to reading a recommendation from Rys1000rr of this forum. These are not cheap and cost me about ?280. for front and rear, BUT, after Darren removed my springs and measured them, he told me that he had springs of the correct size and rate to do the job at probably half the cost. So in a nutshell I think you should give him a ring to clarify the availability and price. I'm not upset at splashing out what I paid as I feel I have top quality springs installed.

Added to these costs are the hire of a van and diesel fuel, which I suspect you probably wont need to budget for? due to your close proximity.

I hope this may be of help to you Keith.

Re: MCT Suspension

Roadrunner, do you mind me asking what weight of spring you ordered? I've just done the same spring swap as you but fear I should have ordered a softer front spring. I ordered 9.5Nm for the front and 85 for the rear. The rear feels great but not convinced about the front.

thanks!

I can only dream of weighing in at 75kilo so at 110 kilo I shouldn't have a problem with standard springs.

I'm with you on this Gaffa, think I was more than that playing front row rugby at High school.

Where's my fitbit?
