its defo not legal.:) in the uk anyway, size of letters and spacing as well as pictures. defo ?100 fine around our neck of the woods. oh and no postcode of where it was made.

Blimey a ?100 fine?! I've been stopped for number plate 'issues' a few times over the years including last summer but never fined for it

you should come over to mid wales some time, in about a months time there start there crack down. exhausts, tinted visors and mainly number plates. my mate was had twice last year. I was following a cop in the same area as he was stopped last year and he deliberately pulled over so he could see my plate. in our area we all ways have legal plates. in llandrindod they even put up a road block some times and check every bike over. once the season gets underway they do ease off a little though, but still use the illegal plate to pull you for no other apparent reason.

Nice, nice the Traffic Police have always been kill joys over there haven't they?! Cant bring myself to have a 9x7 plate on the RR, on my GS no problem, but not on the RR. Good job plod aren't quite so anal over here.... :smile-new:

Where do you get a nice plate like that made?
Most won't make a smaller - but not ridiculous - one.

There's a few places, I use showplates direct, I've had 8x6 plates on my last few bikes, the good old days of having 9x2's are long gone but the 8x6 while still illegal looks good, is as easy to read as a legal plate and as such doesn't take the piss so unless its picked up in a spot check, as mine was, I've found the police don't take any notice.

7 x5 is a safe bet especially in England got pulled by the police last year for a bike safe check. The copper said if you have a 9x3 your getting pulled every day but if it can be read from 25 metres 95% of coppers will let it go.And the proof was in the pudding so to speak they never bothered with my plate.

On eBay, i think it was Leicester Spare Parts or something like that. They done me a similar one in red when I changed the colour of the bike. Quality is great and there are hundreds of options regarding designs.

I always run 7" x 5" plates for more years than I care to remember. Have only ever been pulled up twice , once the plod got his tape measure out so I told him not to bother stating - little chat told me to change it and off I went. Second time followed by unmarked police car , he got his book out , told me plate was way to small & exhaust was not legal nor was my tinted visor and said " anything else illegal on bike?" nearly said apart from no road tax or insurance but thought better of it as could tell he had a sense of humour bypass. Lucky for me he took a instant dislike to a sports car that drove by told me it was my lucky day and jumped in his car and chassed after afore mention sports car!:beguiled:

I bought my 8x6 plate from "hardridden" of eBay... It's classed as a showplate for legal reasons. I feel and have had experience of getting a boot in the stones of the cops for 7x5 or smaller. 8x6 is still not legal but it sits way tidier on my HP than a 9x7 and you may get off with warning as its not totally flaunting it.
I got pulled last year the cops admitted they were after me for my plate but just gave me the speeding ticket that I duly deserved..I gunned it and never saw them behind me lol.. How nice... But he got a ruler out and took a note in his book of the dimensions... Get it changed or next time it's speeding AND the plate son... Saved me a ton mind u... It was an 8x6. So I paid attention...not

Slight change of subject, but still on the topic of the PLOD. Yesterday i took the stallion out to get some fuel and to take it to my friends garage ready to have new tryes fitted. On the way i was riding happily along at 30 mph (actually was doing 30) and i get to the fuel station only to be followed in by an under cover BMW (thought we had something in common) clearly i was wrong the guy was a complete ARSE!!! Firstly he asked me if the bike was mine, maybe my baby features made him think i was too young for the bike. Anyway he said fill up and get in my car, so i did and he said he had pulled me over for being out of control of my motor vehicle as you can imagine i asked him what he meant (by saying WTF are you talking about) probably a mistake on my behalf as it got his back up even more :s. He went on to say that i took my left hand off the bars on numerous occasions (which was true) i told him that i was adjusting the Velcro strap on my right glove as it was flapping in the wind, also i was wiping the rain specs off my visor anyway he basically said he was giving me a ticket for the above offence and told me i was lucky because he could be doing me for a lot more for eg.. filtering/speeding. I told him i was extremely safe when filtering and you cant do me for speeding as you have no proof so dont make it out like you are doing me a favor (i genuinely wasn't speeding). Also he told me i was dressed inappropriately (I was wearing my new Tyco hoody & my full Armour gortex pants plus gloves/boots) Basically what im asking is do you guys think i have a case to fight the ticket or should i take the potential 3 points & ?100 fine or the driving course if i get offered it?

Your actually not kidding are you ! Ffs... if I were you Id have your day in court..the guy sounds like a pure prick. Why accept either ?. I wouldnt Id have refused to accept the charge when he cautioned you. That way his notes must be read out in court.. Inappropriately dressed...lol long as you had a lid on your fine...have your day in court mate accept none of this..if it is as you say and you tell it like it is a
A decent judge will kick it into touch..in Scotland the Procurator fiscal decides what goes in front of the court and has the power to drop a case..not sure how it works in english law, so it may get dropped as it sounds weak..if its as you say represent yourself in court mate you wont need a so called traffic soecialist lawyer.

Nope not joking Stuart, your right he was a complete prick. I knew that the minute he asked if the bike was mine and when i replied yes he said "oh well thats something at least" that i was in for A long chat with him. Clearly nothing better to do. I wish i had refused to sign it but wasn't sure what would happen if i did. I said that! how am i inappropriately dressed? I was making a 2 mile trip through a town i certainly didnt need my full leathers on.

So what has you given a ticket for? Due care & attention? Speeding? From what you've said its not clear what law or laws he thinks you've broken.
