My 2012 gen 2 's ecu started smoking and now the bike won't restart. Can I replace the ecu with a secondhand unit. The bike is purely a track bike so there is no need for an ignition key although it currently has one or can I get the secondhand unit recoded to my current key set. I've asked a couple of ecu companies and they don't know the answer. The bike was crashed on track potentially causing damage to the original ecu

You can replace but BMW would need to code it to your bike. I suspect you'd want the complete set of equipment from a donor, ECU, keys, Ring aerial.
