I think is Safety, and the hole in the airducts is big for send air before (pistons and pads) and to the caliper.
The main problem was they stuck out like Prince Charles lugs and and rubbed against my under yoke paddock stand . After a few days use they were scratched to bits and looked abit crap so removed them.
They were a decent bit of bling though if you use and under fork type paddock stand they?d be ideal .
As far as brake performance was concerned I never noticed any different with or without them
