I always imagine that they trap the moisture and dirt and keep it nicely scrubbed up against the shock?

I got the Pirelli DRC2 on in 200/60. But maybe I couldn't with a shorter wheelbase...change the gearing or fit a longer chain. I ran 16/44 with 120links.
