They just don't have the grip the competition enjoy.

That fuel tank is miles back, if they did that on the stocker you could have a luggage store in the traditional tank area!
 
Does anyone know why the BMW have done so badly in WSBK? Is it they are just down on power which the new M bike should help with as it has more revs to play with. Or is it not as simple as that and its a number of things?
 
Not really sure. I think if it was obvious it would be winning.
My assumption is, it's a lot of small things, but chiefly the electronics. In WSBK instead of a spec kit each manufacturer develops their own solution. So the playing field is wide open and thus open to elitism. Kawasaki spend a MotoGP budget on WSBK, possibly Ducati do too...
 
Clearly BMW need to as well, otherwise market share will head south. Brand loyalty cannot be relied upon, especially with customer complaints not infrequent these days.
