Trim the broken pieces until they fit together as perfectly as you can possibly get them........

Remove all paint from the areas to be bonded/ welded......

Don?t forget to address any cracks. I drilled the end of the crack to stop it spreading. I chamfered the hole, both sides......

Now get an electric soldering iron and weld the broken pieces together. Tack them first then fully weld. Make sure they don?t move. Get help if required!Do the same on the inside moving the iron slowly side to side as you go. Same on the crack, both sides...... Then carefully remove any plastic that stands proud of the repair area with a craft knife. There shouldn?t be much, as most of the plastic will be in the groove the soldering iron has formed.....

Now for the magic! I use Q Bond, but other stuff is available. (See Stuart?s post) sprinkle the black Q Bond powder into the groove the soldering iron has made. Pile it high! Then add the hardener to the repair. It will smoke briefly then set solid. And I mean solid! Turn the panel over and do exactly the same on the other side......Weld and Q Bond

Then, using very fine wet and dry, probably 1000/ 1200 grit, flat down so hopefully you achieve something like the above. The beauty of Q Bond is that it sets hard in seconds but is great to achieve a really smooth finish!

In this case, I needed the thinnest skim of best quality body filler to get a perfect finish.
All that?s required now is some paint and job done!
You may want to tidy up the inside of the panel but that?s up to you as the repair can?t be seen when the panel is fitted.

Hope this is of some help , should you ever drop your bike.
I had already purchased a new panel before I did this repair as I wanted the bike back on the road asap.

Great repair there Mike, you got paint facilities or will you send it out ?

Sorry for my late reply Stuart but been really busy at home of late[emoji53]
I have some painting facilities here at home but prefer to send it to a painter friend of mine. I?ve used him for 20 odd years from when I was working.
As I think I mentioned, due to me wanting the bike back on the road as soon as, I purchased a new replacement. Think it was about ?560.00.
If I drop it again I?ll get the repaired one painted!

Bit pissed off, fitting R and G tank grips I noticed my rhs Carbon panel was loose !.. the locating pin sheared off, bought these in May, they've done max 150 miles.

Anyhoo, contacted the mob in Germany I bought it from, we've agreed that I'll two pack epoxy it and if that doesn't hold they'll replace.

The guy did say I've to return it if it doesnt hold.. so far the repair looks solid, might firm it up with some Q bond.

Theres no chance i'm being left without a panel as I punted my old ones, so they can send a new one first. Time will tell...

Edit: for the record, I bought a syringe of Gorilla Epoxy resin, the idea is good but the syringe thing is wank, easy to put the single cap back on the wrong way, so hardener touches adhesive.. outcome isn't hard to figure out, stick with separate tubes.

This repair kit is still very practical, because it includes the FlexMold molding bar, which allows you to get parts of the desired shape.
